I cannot get online wired or wireless. I have configured the wireless and it says I am connected with excellent strength, however, I cannot get on line. When I get the error, the corner icon says local intranet instead of internet. I don't know how to change that.

Possibly the power outage caused your modem to reset. The wired connection would still work. first thing I would try is to reset the modem with the reset button, login to the management console and put in your network name and password again.

Can you connect to the Internet using the LAN cable?
Have you configured the wireless card in your laptop with the router's wireless settings?

The "excellent" is the signal-strength between your wireless adapter
and your wireless router.
You still need to select the SSID ("network name") that you configured into the router, and enter the password for your network, before you can connect to the Internet.
Compare it to having a brand-new mobile telephone. Until you dial a friend's number, and the friend answers, all you have is an "excellent" telephone.

Access the router's setup page/configuration page and change the channel of your wirelessrouter to 1, 3 or 11. Make sure you know if the wireless encryption is ON and get the key.

make sure you putting the wep key proper and use the same wireless key which is configure in to your daughter laptop. and also try tio ping the wireless ip address to make sure the connection is proper.

Check DHCP/Manual IP configuration at both ends. I think Router is configured for manual IP configuration and Laptop is configured DHCP.

You need to turn off first or disconnect LAN connection which is the cable connection before you can use the wireless connection. After that go control panel you need to setup internet connection and be sure to configure the IP address to automatic which the DHCP mode configuration then restart. That's it. Have nice day!

1. Start your network in this order:
   1. Turn the modem power off.
   2. Turn the router power off.
   3. Turn the modem power back on. Wait two minutes until the lights are stable.
   4. Turn the router power back on. Wait one minute until the lights are stable.
   5. Turn the computer power back on.
2. Open an Internet browser, and type http://192.168.0.1. If a "Configuration Assistant" appears immediately, then do not follow the rest of these instructions. Follow the Configuration Assistant instructions, instead. Once you are finished, test your Internet connection by browing online, for example to http://kbserver.netgear.com.
   
3. Type admin for User Name, and password for Password. (Older routers use 1234 as the password.)

7. Configure your router with the username and password provided by your ISP and click Apply.
8. The router will now save these settings. When complete, you can verify whether you are connected to the internet from the Router Status > Maintenance menu.
9. Verify you have a valid IP address (not-blank / 0.0.0.0) on the Internet Port assigned by your ISP

12. Click Wireless Settings under Setup menu.
13. Under Security Options, Select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
14. Select Authentication type as Automatic and Encryption Strength as 64-bit (or 128-bit) - You must later configure your wireless computers with the same setting.
15. Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength) and Apply the settings. Please note down these values - You must later configure your wireless computers with the same setting.
16. then check in your w/ls laptop, you would find your w/ls n/w name , try connect to it, enter your key , you would get connected
