Hello Metalhead92,

I am sorry to hear about your Insignia® Pilot MP3 player's cracked screen. Unfortunately cracked screens are considered to be physical damage and are not covered by the manufacturer's limited warranty nor by any Best Buy™ performance service plan or product replacement plans.

The MP3 player may still be serviceable but you would have to pay for the cost of repair. Your local Best Buy store can help you by sending the unit out for an estimate. However, my experience with these kinds of repairs is that they can often come close or exceed the cost of a comparable replacement item. It may make more economic sense to simply purchase a new MP3 player.

Best Regards,
Ken

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Mp3 turns on but screen is black

This happens a lot with these units (not just insignia). The backlighting goes bad. The lcd probably works, but, because no light is going through, it just looks black. This happens a lot especially if they get wet (moist). Wrap them in plastic before going on a run. The good news is, these are inexpensive to replace on ebay.

Getting damage fixed?

Hey originalle,

While LCD screens from MP3 players can sometimes be replaced, repairs may often prove to be cost-inefficient when compared to buying a new product. This could be due to any number of reasons, but may often be the result of a lack of replacement parts.

If you would like to get a better idea of what can be done to repair your MP3 player, you may wish to first contact Insignia® directly. An Insignia® technical support representative should be able to provide you with the pricing and availability of replacement LCD screens, but please keep in mind that the part may only be available as part of a larger assembly.

Alternatively, you can always check with your local electronic repair facility to see if they are able to service MP3 players. Some companies may have access to third-party/aftermarket parts for your model, or even provide a mail-in service program for your area.

If you are not sure where to look for assistance, remember that you can always check your local Yellow Pages for more information under "audio-visual repair."

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

THE SONGS SAY UNKNOWN

Insignia mp3 players are a little buggy in that they occasionally get file system problems that cause strange things like this to happen. First backup your songs from the mp3 player, and select "erase internal memory". That actually reformats the memory. Then put your songs back on the mp3 player. If it still doesn't work, please advise.

Also slight change your mp3 files are not "tagged" by whatever cd ripper or encoder or place you bought or downloaded them from.
