It's located inside the vacuum kind of behind the where the dirt is collected. You can open and clean but this is probably not necessary. You probably vacuum very fine dust that is hard to remove from the system.

Try replacing or cleaning all filters and letting the vaccum run for a few minutes without moving. Agitator off of course.

I have the model 36932 with direct drive. lately, there is the distinct smell of rubber when starting up and running. There is no belt on this machine. What could be causing the smell? roger

Check that the rotating brush is not seized and the belt is not slipping on it or the motor drive shaft. The belt will burn through if the machine is left to run any longer.

I had the same problem with the amber inteliclean light continually on. I found the problem to be in the plastic housing that connects the suction hose to the back of the upright section. You have to remove three screws and gently pull the hose housing off the vacuum. Inside I found a hairy clump that was caught on the inside of the hose. The optical "dirt sensor" is just inside the fitting on the upright section. When dirt or other stuff blocks the optical path of the sensors, the amber light will illuminate. My vacuum had an uneven cut on the hose which caused a snag point for hair, dirt and debris. Once this was removed, the vacuum worked like new.

Regarding the roller, this unit has an integrated motor in the roller. I would guess that you will need to take it apart, and hopefully only clean it up. If you need bearings, that will likely be expensive.

I have a kenmore upright direct drive vacuum. The vacuum works fine in all ways except the brush just stopped working. Any ideas?

The rubber belt which drives the brush could be broken or the brush can be clogged with string and hair etc.

Sensor

There is an optical sensor inside the port where you attach your vacuum bag. Take the bag off and take a clean soft cloth and wipe inside the port to remove dirt from the sensor. Don't wet it! Do this every time you change your bag and you shouldn't have a problem.

There is actually an internal fuse in the vacuum. You may have blown this. The circuit board connected to the ON/OFF touch pad may be bad too but probably unlikely. There is also an overheat sensor that trips the vacuum off when it gets too hot. This could be bad preventing it from coming on too. All of these solutions, require you to open the vacuum to fix.

Kenmore Progressive issue

I started by replacing the bag. No change.

I opened the bag compartment and noticed that the dirt sensor went to clean, but only when the compartment was open.

I cleaned out the foam filer at the bottom of the bag compartment. No change.

I took off the air outflow filter and cleaned it (Should have replaced it, but don't have a spare right now.). No change.

Unscrewed the hos from the back of the vacuum. The dirt sensor again went to clean.

I had isolated the problem to the hose. I hooked the hose back up and the dirt sensor went to dirty again.
The problem was that the hose was dirty on the inside. To clean the hose, I stretched it out little by little and banged it a little to loosed the dirt with the vacuum running. After the hose was cleaned, the dirt sensor had no problems.

Check the hose and dirt inlet for a blockage. Also the brush roll, check it to see if you can turn it or not by hand. If not, then something may have jammed it.
