Foot pedal broken
Posted by Monte79 on May 28, 2008
I have Bissell Power Steamer Clear view IIII #3105403. I let someone borrow it (mistake #1) and he over extended the foot pedal that angles the upright during use. The pedal is still connected, but the power steamer is locked in the upright position. There is also a bit of dirty water in the bucket, and i cannot empty it because it's basically locked in now. HELP

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.

Sorry you are having a problem with your Bissell, it sounds like he bent the handle release lever and you either need to bend it back or replace it depending on the level of damage to the item. Please feel free to contact the Bissell factory to see the best way to fix the problem, it is not an expensive fix however so contact your local vac dealer or get a referral from the Bissell factory for the nearest Bissell authorized dealer in your area.
So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

SOURCE: I need insructions to replace

See the image below
f6698bb.jpg

1. Turn off power switch and unplug from the outlet.
2. Using a Flat head screw driver, insert the blade end into the lower slot of the belt access door to release the lower snap. Insert the blade end to the upper slot to release the upper snap.
3. Examine the belt for breakage. You should be able to see the pump belt looped around the motor shaft.
4. Replace if its broken or missing.
5. Once completed replacement return back the belt access door and power on the unit.

If you still have some questions just post back.
Please do rate my solutions.
Thank you for using Fixya.

Need to replace belt and cannot figure how to take it apart to get at the belt --- Took Screws off on the bottom but could not get to the belt

You have already removed the screws so lift the brush cover off. Then grasp rotating floor brush at both ends and lift. Clean strings, hair and other debris from rotating brush, paying close attention to the brush ends. Clean the debris from motor pulley and drive belt areas.Grasp old drive belt and remove from motor pulley. Place new drive belt over motor pulley and stretch other end over rotating floor brush in the space between the bristles. Place the ends of the rotating floor brush down into slots on the sides. Turn the rotating floor brush by hand several times in the direction of motor pulley. If installed properly, drive belt will center itself on rotating brush. Reposition brush cover and screw back into place. I hope that this helps you!

Is there any reason the water won't come out?

You need to replace the pump belt, that is why the water is not dispensing and you need to replace the brush belt, that is why the brush isn't spinning. Here are the belts you need.

I don't think that the brush is rotating when I am cleaning. What could be causling this?

The brush is belt-driven. If your vacuum is older than 1 year you will need to replace this belt because it is slipping due to wear.

If the motor on the power brush is running the belt is bad, if the motor on the power brush only runs when you push the overload, the overload is bad.

Brush bar wont turn, Bissell smells like burning rubber

The belt just goes from the motor shaft to the brush roll. Do the ends of the brush trun freely, or is one of them froze up, if so replace the brush roll. If it is ok, try to turn the brush roll by hand, maybe the belt got pinched and won't move.

Bissell upright vac, brush on bottom does not rotate

The front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.

I have a bissel carpet cleaner and the brush does not rotate when machine is on.

The brush roll is driven by a cogged belt, the brush roll will also have these cogs. If they look all right, then check the end of the pump, it has a dual pulley on it, one for the flat pump belt, and the other for a cogged belt. If the cogs are wore away or that part of the pulley broke off, then you will have to replace the pump. That pulley only comes with a pump.
