This is actually a designed safety feature of the dryer that allows the consumer to lock the control panel to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. It can be inadvertently locked by leaning on the control panel, or during power outages. The instructions are printed on the front panel of the washer and are included in the owner's manual.

I've been looking for these instructions and have just stumbled across them . Just inside the door there should be a barcode. On the top right check the model no. mine is WD 12S, despite the model no on the outside being WD125.
you dont need a kit, get under ther with an elbow and some solid vent tubes, a little foil tape and your in, should be a prefforated knock-out where it will vent through side,
