Re: How to make a latop
You would need quite a few things, and to be honest, you would need to make sure each component is compatible. The easist thing to do would be to buy one ready made, however if you want to learn how repair them, buy a cheap broken one from ebay and have a go.

If its to share files, play games you can connect both via network cables 1 from laptop to router and 1 from desktop to router, if you donot have a router/switch then you will need a crossover network cable to plug into latop and other end to desktop
have you already tried to power up your laptop without the battery, only with the powersupply docked in?
If this works, you´ll have to replace the battery or use the laptop without a battery.
If this doesn´t work, just take the full battery from the other laptop try to power up the laptop without the power supply docked in.
If this works, your latop motherboard is broken and till it is replaced, you have only the chance to work with a battery and reload it with another latop.
This could be a problem with your fan, whcih could be going out. it could also be the battery. check to make sure your battery is not listed on gateway's site for recall. last year a ton of laptop batteries were recalled for overheating and casusing meltdowns in latops. My own Gateway latop was one of them and got replaced for free because of it.
Also, I've found gateway laptops run a bit hot anyway, so I would buy a cooling pad with a fan or two inside to take the edg off the heat. it will increase the lifespan of your computer and mostare very quiet as well. Make sure you get one that is powered by USB so you don't have an extra power cord to worry about.
