Initial screen shows "OPEN" in the top right corner

We bought 2 of these players in March 2007. One works fine. when we put a disc in the other one, it shows "OPEN". but the lid is shut. Help!

My Protron 288 DVD player is doing the same thing. It has worked great for a long time, and just recently it goes to the blue protron screen and says "open" in the top right corner. It won't do anything else. Any suggestions??

I had this exact same problem with my Protron DVD player. It was driving me crazy. I was about to just trash it, cause I was so tired of dealing with it. Then I decided maybe I should open it up and see what the issue is. I am not sure what exactly I did that fixed it, so I will just tell you everything I did. It works great now!! It's as if I know what I'm doing... but I was just playing really.

Here's what I did:
I unplugged it, took off the battery pack, turned it over and unscrewed the four screws holding it all together (one of the screws is located under a sticker that warns about voiding the warranty). Then I turned it back over, lifted the screen back and pulled apart the top from the bottom. It did kinda sound like something might crack as I pulled it apart, but it didn't. I just moved slowly and eventually got the entire thing separated, even the plastic around the hinge area will pop off, leaving just a couple cables connecting the top to the bottom. Again... I am not sure what I did that fixed it. But I found the button that would be located under the right small hinge of the DVD door that tells it if the door is open or closed. I pushed it a few times, thinking at first that something might be missing or broken that should make it work. I blew it out (just because it was opened up and I thought it couldn't hurt). I did notice a small white plastic piece near the back that fell when I had pulled open the entire thing. I thought it had to do with dvd door, but then realized it was the control that told the player if the lid was up or down. It had a wide side and a skinny side, with a flat piece in between. The skinny side actually sticks through the top section I had just removed. It shouldn't have had anything to do with the other problem, and it could have been in place just fine before I opened it up. I did put it back through the hole, using a piece of tape to keep it there while I assembled the entire thing back together. And then I was excited. I fixed it. I'm not sure how, but at least I don't need to buy another one. I don't know if it was me blowing it out, replacing that plastic piece, or playing with the dvd door open button. I would think it is the latter. (when it all apart there are two little black buttons near the back. one is just right of center, and the other is another inch or so to the right of that. the first is the dvd door open button, the furthest right is the one that lines up with the white plastic piece and the hole for lid open or closed).

That is probably really confusing. Sorry. I just explained as best I could. Let me know if further explanation is needed.

Hi, I am seeking the region free code for a Samsung DVD-D530? Thanks!

I tried the above steps, but each time when restarting the DVD player, it said 'reset' and asked for the language to be selected again. Pressing the "Fast Forward Fast Rewind Fast Forward Up Down" sequence caused the player to lock up and require powering off at the wall.
I found on another web site that there are different initial sequences. Once I use the one for Region 2, it worked fine.

I found the instructions below on another web site, but it worked for me...
  • Make sure there is no disc in the player.
  • Turn on the player (you can use remote control or front panel, it doesn't matter)
  • Wait for "No Disc" message to appear on the TV screen.
  • Press the Repeat button on remote (plain, not A-B).
  • Press the correct sequence of buttons of remote according to the original region code of your player (it's on the sticker on the back panel of the player). FF = fast forward, FR = fast rewind.
    • Region 2 players: FF, FR, FF, UP, DOWN
    • Region 3 players: FF, PLAY, FR, UP, LEFT
    • Region 4 players: FR, PLAY, DOWN, DOWN, RIGHT
    • Region 5 players: FF, UP, DOWN, STOP, RIGHT
    • Region 6 players: LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT, PLAY, LEFT
  • If you pressed the correct sequence, a small white number 0 will appear somewhere on the top right of the screen. The white number 0 of the same font and size as the "No Disc" message, so don't confuse with the red "not allowed" sign that would appear when you press a function that's not available.
  • Turn the player off and on again, then you can pop in a DVD of any region and watch immediately.
Good luck!

Samsung BD-P1600 region free code

1) Press the POWER button on the remote to turn on the
machine (no disc in the tray).

2) Wait till the player has booted up and the Samsung logo
screen is displayed.

3) Press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the remote twice, to open
then close the disc tray.

4) As soon as you see "No-Disc" displayed in the top left
corner, press the REPEAT button followed by the 5 digit code
for your current region as listed below.

(Mine was 57538 for region 2)

press REPEAT 5 7 5 3 8.

If it doesn't work straight away, keep trying, mine worked
on the first go.

5) If you're successful, your current region code will be
displayed in the top left corner of the screen.

6) Press '9' to make your player region free.

7) Turn the player off, then on again and test with a
different region disc, or if you don't have one to test
with, just repeat the hack and instead of your old region
code appearing in the top left corner of your screen, you
should see '9' if you've been successful.

The hack can be repeated to turn your machine back to it's
original settings or to a particular region if the disc is
sensative to region free machines.

I bought a Dora DVD player for my daughter in March 2007. On November 2007 I inserted a disc into the player. It spun and stated there was no disc on the tv in the upper left hand corner. I tried 2 other DVDs and the same thing happened. I unplugged everything temporarily and plugged it back in and no improvements???
