Is an emachine boot disk W2828 compatible with compaq presario desk topS4000v series?

No.

When Windows is put on a computer it assigns hash values to certain major hardware components;

1) Processor
2) Motherboard chipset
3) BIOS program, version, and date
4) Harddrive
5) Graphics chipset

Instead, I would like to post that you can get the Restoration Disk, for your Compaq.

THE disk.

On the back of the desktop is the Serial Number in a white Service Tag. S/N = Serial Number
Only give this to an authorized HP representative.
(HP bought out Compaq)

In the US the disk is free.
The shipping and handling is not.

$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.
Call 1-800-474-6836
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Write the Serial Number down to give to the nice representative.

Outside the US,

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

After you install the Restoration Disk in the computer, and when asked, choose Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)

Cannot boot up windows xp or do system recovery

It's easy Megan, just chill, lol!

Look at the back of the computer next to the Windows product key, or up on the side of the computer tower, for the white Service Tag.
In the tag write down what it states next to S/N.

This is the Serial Number.

(DO NOT post on here. Only give to an authorized HP representative)

Now contact HP Support, and ask for the Restoration Disk.
(HP bought out Compaq a long time ago)

In the USA the disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

In the US call 1-800-474-6836

Outside the US use HP Support Worldwide,

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

When you get the disk, turn your computer on, and put the disk in the optical drive's tray. (CD/DVD drive)
When asked choose Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)

I have an Everex Impact GC 2500 and it says I need to reinstall windows xp but I dont have the disk or product key code from yrs ago. Part of my sticker on the side of the computer is torn so I cant see...

If your current copy of Windows is still working, search online for the free 'PRODUKEY' software.
Download it. Unzip it. Run it, and it will tell you the 25-character product-key that you used when you installed Windows. Write it down!

> don't have the disk

Some computers have an option at power-on time to boot to the "System Recovery" environment.
From that environment, you can reinstall Windows.

Some computers have a utility to use your CD/DVD writer to burn a set of "System Recovery" disks. Get up to 10 CD-writable disks, and run the utility.

Or, contact the manufacturer, and order a set of "System Recovery" disks.
Probably about $20, plus $20 for overnight-courier.

System recovery for HP Media Center m1070n

Hitting F10 is for creating the disks. To rebuild it, place the first recovery disk in the DVD player and reboot the machine. If the disk does not boot:
1. To check the drive, place another DVD in the drive and see if you get a response. 2. The boot disk check can be tested by placing the disk in your other machine. Good Luck. circe@PCTechsOnline.com

I bought an emachines computer about a year ago with vista home. My hard drive died, how do I install vista on a new drive, I have no install disk for vista.

You'll need to contact the manufacturer.  After they confirm the product serial # (you should write down both the product number and Microsoft license # before you call) they will send out a recovery disk (they will probably charge you for them).  If the old hard drive is still installed, you can attempt a recovery by booting and hitting the ALT key while tapping the F10 key repeatedly to initiate the recovery mode which is stored in a partition on the hard drive.  The partition is probably still good although the "C" drive is no good.

Recovery disks

Won't they sell you a set of disks for a minimal fee?
There are methods for creating slipstreamed recovery disks, (see here and here) using downloads of your OS from MS and burning them in combination with your original recovery disk, which creates an up to date installation of your os, but without knowing what the issues were with the original disks, I couldn't say whether this might work.
If drivers are the only issue, check here.
Also, if you're on vista, see here

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
