Question about Philips 60PP9363 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
A few weeks ago i was watching tv... the set suddenly went dark but the red 'power' light remained on. I unplugged it and attempted to try again the next day but no go... same problem. I called a repair company to take a look at it; they poked around for a few minutes then came out and said it would cost me over $400 to fix. He gave me a lot of technical jargon to explain the cost but I sent him away... perhaps he is right, but I wanted to check around first. A friend says that it could just be a blown bulb or something. The set is only about 3 or 4 years old, is it possible that it has failed so soon? Thanks, folks! --Jeremiah--
I had the a similar issue. My TV broke - no sound and no video but the power light was still on.
I gave up and called in a repair tech.
He fixed my TV in less than 30 minutes by replacing a bad IC chip. He informed me that this is a very common problem with the older Magnavox TV sets and that its typicaly the same chip that fails.
I spent over 300.00 for the repair. The parts cost less than 20.00.
To help others in the same boat I put together a how to guide and parts kit on www.magnavoxhelp.com . I'm not sure if it will work for you but it may be worth a shot.
