Question about Dryers

1 Answer

2 1/2 year old Kenmore stackable front load dryer. Just started a loud, grinding, whining when dryer was turned on. This is not a problem in Sears "Avoid Service Checklist". Any thoughts or ideas? Many thanks

If your dryer is noisy, check these:

Rollers
Idler pulley
Glides
Rear drum bearing
Blower wheel
Rollers Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

Idler pulley Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

Glides Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

Rear drum bearing Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

Kenmore dryer stopped running

Hi, I can determine a motor bad by the noise. Does it hum while holding the start button or is it a grinding deep sound? It can sound like the motor starts slow but once it gets going, it is ok. Sometimes the house lights will dim when the motor statrs going bad.
Let me know if I can help you further.

It takes at least 2 60 minute cycles to dry clothes. Not even 2 years old yet. Not a new problem has always been this way. What is the deal.

Check the blower fan which is mounted underneath the drum on my DLE2514W front loading LG dryer. I experienced poor drying along with a loud thump at the start of each cycle. At first I thought it was a bad roller but later found that the blower fan had separated from its bracket so it was not turning with each turn of the moter but rather spinning freely.

I have a fridgeair front load stackable dryer. The dryer tub has problems getting started rotating. At times it also makes loud noises coming from the back center of tub. In order to get tub started...

Frigidaire Dryers use a ball and socket in the rear to support the drum. The socket is made of a Teflon type of plastic that will wear out when the grease is no longer present. By now, the ball of the drum is probably grinding away at the metal support for the socket, thus the loud noise. At the same time the front seals are probably worn out. These two things combined is causing alot of friction keeping the drum from turning freely. The parts required to fix these issues are not that expensive. Getting the dryer apart to replace these items however is time consuming and easier with two people.
The top panel, control panel, front panel and the drum will all have to be removed.

Dryer making very loud noise.

We had the exact same noise all of a sudden start coming from our 2 year old dryer. We checked everything, rollers, pulleys, motors, etc. I was certain it was coming from the upper left. Finally we found a loose screw had fallen into the front felt ring. Problem solved!
Good luck.
