The intermitent works off of the (gem) generic electronic module which controls the wipers. if wipers working except the delay cycle replace the module. the relays are located in the engine compartment . wiper park relay- wiper hi-lo relay- washer motor relay. fuse in fuse panel under driver side dash panel.

Read elsewhere that the relays were probably the culprit. Found them on the 1999 Taurus Wagon next to the battery. Didn't have access to any diagrams to test mine so I replaced all seven relays with some from the junk yard and they worked.

What does a generic electronic module do?

Ford uses separate relay for intermittent wipers. I had one burn out. Electronic module is for engine and related components.

My windshield wipers won't turn off once they are turned on, Would it be the wiper motor or the relay

The intermittent works on a heat operated relay, it warms up, clicks on, cools down, clicks off etc. My guess is this is playing up. If you listen carefully when operating, you can hear it click behind the dash panel which would help the locating.

Wiper/turn signal relay locations on a 1999 ford taurus

Denise, the relays are under the hood. They're in an electrical box of their own. The car owner's manual will tell you which one it is.However,I've found the problem is usually a fuse that's under the dash.

What fuse is the windshield wiper fuse in a 2001 ford taurus?

Check on Passenger Fuse Compartment the position 15 30AMP for Front Wiper Motor. Additionally, in the Fuse Box (underhood) check position 25 - Wiper Speed Relay and 29 - Wiper Park Relay (blank space) but could have some use.

Other details in the 2001 taurus owners manual.

1990 Ford Taurus GL windshield wipers park in the wrong position

I have a 1996 Ford Taurus with a similar malfunction the intermittent wiper function is erratic, but the wipers park properly. I'm the original owner & this malfunction was in the car from the factory. I have a regular Ford Dealership manual & came to the conclusion that the Generic Electronic Module located behind the fuse panel is bad (computer glitch in programming) ! Ford Dealers want over $ 300.00 for a brand new module, I haven't checked with my local used auto parts recycler yet, but I know it will be less than the dealer price !
