Hi,
Yes If it starts small, and grows, it's thermal.

You're not sitting the scanner on anything that heats up are you?

It may also be a component that is generating heat within the scanner - thus warming the bar when it is parked - possibly the stepper motor?

Do you do a lot of scans when you use it? - you may need a different model to cope with the higher load.

Hope this helps you.

If you cannot detect any overheating, a new reader head is required to fix, but it may continue if the problem actually is another component overheating.

It is a reader issue. Unfortunately the fix will be more expensive than buying a new machine.
Sorry for that

Check the glass of the scanner. It may have some stain over it.

DR-5010C scanner yellow line

First clean the glass thoroughly using IPA (Iso Propyl Alcohol) Dont use any solvents. If you are getting the same result even after this, there could be a module problem.

Vertical lines through scanned images.

You should clean the small glass under the top lid. Chances are there is some white out or ink or mark on the glass. Look carefully because usually it is just a small dot>

Epson 1640 SU problem, faint yellow line while scanning

Perhaps this: the scanner calibrates itself on a white strip above the place where the lamp is in rest. When there is a spot on that white strip, the scanner wil use the retreived information for the whole scan, resulting in a line on your scan.
