Hi,
Yes If it starts small, and grows, it's thermal.

You're not sitting the scanner on anything that heats up are you?

It may also be a component that is generating heat within the scanner - thus warming the bar when it is parked - possibly the stepper motor?

Do you do a lot of scans when you use it? - you may need a different model to cope with the higher load.

Hope this helps you.

If you cannot detect any overheating, a new reader head is required to fix, but it may continue if the problem actually is another component overheating.

It is a reader issue. Unfortunately the fix will be more expensive than buying a new machine.
Sorry for that

I have an HP Photosmart 3310 that scans yellow

most likely if light is not leaking in when you scan. Its a led or led indexing problem. you can still use it for printing but if you need it to scan. but you can buy a comparable HP replacement for about 40 dollars.

When scanning in colour pages, I am getting a yellow line down one side of the page. What is causing this? How do I get rid of it? Bill D.

it would be you scanning lamp that's not working as it should, try and clean the lamp inside, also make sure that there are no marks on the split glass.
hope it helps.

Lines on copies and scanned images

I would type it all out but hp has a great little document - complete with pictures!! The issue is that there is something on the small strip of glass that is used for the feeder and needs to be cleaned.

Ink Cartridge Alignment

On alignment sheet, do you see a line of yellow blocks?
And on next line do you see alternate block and yellow blocks?

(Without these, alignment fails)

If not, change the colour cartridge, re-print the page and repeat alignment.

Good luck...

Scanning document leaves streak down right hand side

Even a single grain of dust or a single strand of hair on the scanning glass will cause the scan head to perceive ink/image where there is none. Deffinetly try cleaning the glass using a good window cleaner, and a cloth that is completely clean, or even a peice of newspaper. If the black line remains, I would suggest taking it into a service center to have the scan head itself cleaned.

Vertical lines through scanned images.

You should clean the small glass under the top lid. Chances are there is some white out or ink or mark on the glass. Look carefully because usually it is just a small dot>

Scan glass has muck on it, needs to be perfectly clear, it is just in where you feed originals.
