That progressive yellow line, is a clear indication(the other experts are accurate here) that there is a thermal issue with your scanning engine. this is NOT a User friendly change, however.

There is some thermal problem in your printer ........

The problem might be with your print head nozzles. Lines across a printed image are a tell-tale sign of clogged print head nozzles. This usually happens when the printer has not been used for some time. You may try cleaning the nozzles using the procedure given here:http://printerinkcartridgesblog.printcou...

Hi,

This sounds like a thermal problem with the reader bar. It may need replacing.

Is it along the scan as if there is a fault with reading, or as a full width "blip"

If it is full width, it can be a break in the ribbon cable.

Ok this can be a 2 sided problem.
One your cartridge can be leaking or the photosensitive reader is broken. This is not just a matter of cleaning but this needs to be serviced by a proffesional. Sorry that there is not an easy fix. You might be better off buying a new printer unless you still have warranty

Most likely if light is not leaking in when you scan. Its a led or led indexing problem. you can still use it for printing but if you need it to scan. but you can buy a comparable HP replacement for about 40 dollars.

As I have given you what is likely wrong, and also the best economic solution. I hope you will reconsider the rating as you should have at least found it helpful. If you need anything else don't hesitate to ask.
    Thanks again,

Can't scan PLEASE HELP!

SOLUTION: Download the latest version (v 7.7.2) of the HP software from the HP website at www.hp.com. Uninstall the previous software and then reinstall the downloaded software. WORKAROUND: Follow the steps below:
  1. Load the slides or negatives in the TMA and place it on the scanner glass.
  2. Open Image Zone and click on Scan Picture to scan everything.
  3. After the scan is completed, change the settings from glass to scan slide/negative from TMA. The unit will scan again and show the four slides or negatives in the preview.
  4. Click on the first picture in the scan preview and make the following changes:
    • change the dust and scratch removal/sharpness to none
    • change the resolution to 72 dpi
  5. Click on the second picture in the scan preview and make the same changes described above.
  6. Click on the third picture and then the fourth picture and make the same changes.
  7. Click Accept . The correctly scanned slide or negative images will be saved in the Gallery.

It could be not power to the power supply. Do you have a way of testing it?

Here is the yellow line I am getting when i scan.

Hi,
Yes If it starts small, and grows, it's thermal.

You're not sitting the scanner on anything that heats up are you?

It may also be a component that is generating heat within the scanner - thus warming the bar when it is parked - possibly the stepper motor?

Do you do a lot of scans when you use it? - you may need a different model to cope with the higher load.

Hope this helps you.
