Dell Precision M4600 will not go past POST, Stops at Preparing to enter setup

If your Dell Precision M4600 is getting stuck at the "Preparing to enter setup" stage during POST, you might want to try a few troubleshooting steps.
1. **Power Cycle:** Disconnect the laptop from the power source, remove the battery (if possible), and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds. Then, reconnect the battery and power source and try booting again.
2. **Reset BIOS:** You could try resetting the BIOS settings to their default values. To do this, look for a small button battery on the motherboard. Disconnect the laptop from power and remove the battery. Press and hold the power button for a few seconds to discharge any remaining power. Then, locate the battery, remove it for a minute or so, and put it back. This will reset the BIOS settings to default.
3. **Update BIOS:** If the issue persists, you might need to update the BIOS. Check the Dell support website for your laptop model and download the latest BIOS update. Follow the instructions to update the BIOS.
4. **Check Hardware:** If the issue is not resolved, it might be related to a hardware problem. Try removing and reseating components like RAM, hard drive, and any expansion cards.
5. **External Devices:** Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, printers, etc.) and try booting again. Sometimes, a faulty external device can cause boot issues.
6. **Diagnostic Lights:** Dell laptops often have diagnostic LED lights that provide information about hardware issues. Check the user manual for your laptop model to interpret these lights.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be worth seeking professional assistance or contacting Dell support for further guidance.

Precision T7400 power supply sounding an alarm

Did you open the case on your computer? It may have an open case alarm which is a small switch typically located near the edge of the cover you removed. Make sure the case cover is completely installed, then see if the alarm goes off.

I have a Dell Studio 1745 Laptop and today it shut down right in the middle of me doing something and now it won't turn back on. When I push the on button the top portion of the keyboard lights up and...

It may be that one of your RAM sticks is not seated properly in its holder.

Try unplugging the power cord, and removing the battery.

Then remove the cover plate on the underside of the laptop to reveal the RAM memory slots.

Unclip and remove your ram modules then put them right back in the same spot and make sure they are seated firmly and properly in their slots.

Now reboot the computer and see if that makes a difference.

It is also possible that one of your RAM sticks is faulty.

If you have more than one installed, try taking each one out in turn and booting the computer with just one ram stick installed. If the machine will never boot whenever one particular stick is installed, then that is probably just a bad stick of ram and you should just replace it with a new one.

Good luck.

When i press the power button the led lights for the power and hard drive goes on and computer seems to be churning with a (blank screen), but after about 5 seconds it shuts off. I tried with the supply...

While this could be due to any number of hardware problems, the most common and easiest to
troubleshoot or repair is RAM failure. If your laptop has two RAM modules installed, try booting with just one and then the other in the primary slot. If your laptop only has one RAM module, you might consider buying one online from a site with a good memory selector, like Crucial.com, or borrow one for testing purposes.

If this did not turn out to be the case, then you might consider removing the various components of the laptop, on part at a time, & trying to power it on to see if the problem is resolved. Start by removing the easier parts first, like the hard drive, optical drive, wireless adapter, modem, ... etc.
Continue to remove the parts, one a t a time, till you only have the motherboard & the LCD screen. Re-install the RAM, & test whether the system will stay up when turned on or not. If not, then consider replacing the motherboard with a new one.

My Dell Precision M50 will not boot. The power

hello, it seems like the only thing you haven't tried is to reset BIOS by taking out the battery from the board. since you have reseated everthing else i am assuming that you are comforatble opening up you laptop.
open it one more time and remove the battery from the board (some of these batteries are now soldered so you may need soldering iron)and leave it out for about atleast 10mins.

see if that helps.

remove external peripherals. remove battery. use ac adapter alone. check if ac adapter has sufficient power or check if ac adapter led is solid green or blue. if not then ac adapter might not giving laptop enough power to power up.
if ac adapter led stays on but some problem check the ac adapter - laptop pin socket if loose or damage. if not then replace mobo.
