Re: linksys router not performing
Has it worked before? if yes, try to power cycle everything. turn off everyhting then turn on the modem first, then the router, then the computer/s.
if you have power cycled everything already and you still can't access the internet using the router,
- access the router's setup page by logging to http://192.168.1.1 (leave the username blank and the default password is "admin")
- if you're using a cable connection, set the connection type to "automatic configuration - dhcp" and enable the mac address clone
- if you're using a dsl connection and you have a username and password from your isp, set the connection type to "pppoe" then enter the complete username (ex. firstname.lastname@example.org) and password given by your isp.
- check the "status" tab of the router and see if there's an internet ip and dns, if so, you should be able to connect to the internet
- If you need clarification, ask it in the comment box above.

Connect you computer directly to the cable coming with the internet.
Type cmd in the start menu and when you reach the command box
Type config in the box
This will display the ipV4 address which should be the internet gateway.
if this is 192.168.1.1 then we have to change the router ip ti 192.168.1.2
please follow this link how to change rotuter ip adress http://ui.linksys.com/files/WRT160N/v3/3.0.00/index.htm
In the mid of this page router ip should be done to 192.168.1.2
please contact me if this still does not work.
sometimes this router are afected by the lightnings, verify that the internet connection is working well by plugin the internet(ethernet) cable directly to your computer, if it gets connected to the internet we are sure the probleme is isolated to the router.
The easiest way to check if the problem is the router WAN(internet) port would be connecting a known good router just for few minutes
Most DSL providers use PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) to establish Internet connections for end-users. To set up a Linksys router, you need to enable PPPoE on the router’s web-based setup page. To setup a Linksys router with a DSL connection you need to perform four steps:
Verifying Internet Connection
Connecting the Devices Together
Checking the LEDs
Setting-up a DSL ISP on a Linksys Router
Verifying Internet Connection Connect the Broadband modem to the computer using an Ethernet cable without the router installed and make sure that the Internet connection is active. If not, contact your Internet Service Provider.
May be your router internet settings has been wrong. you must reset the router settings by clicking the router reset button. Pls locate the button and then put the internet cable into router internet port.
-- who is your internet service provider -- what is the operating system of your computer? -- is this working fine before or is this a brand new router
you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router
Step 1: Shutdown the computer. Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable. Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds. Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable. Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable. Step 6: Power on the computer on and configure the router settings Step 7: test the Internet connection.
if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router
configuring the router settings will depends who is your provider. if your isp is dsl you need to configure your ISP username and password on the router. if your router is a cable no need to change any settings on the router. it should automatically work
When you connect all the devices make sure you reset them all after plugging them together. Also use a different ethernet cord and make sure your plugging the Modem into the WAN port on the router. If your still having same problem just let me know.
