The IR detector of the remote will work only with a direct visual contact. hence it si important that the cable box must be located in the same room so as the remote works perfectly.
The remote might work with a deflection by it might not be a good solution.
You can move the cable box to the position of the TV so that it works well.

I cannot change the channel with my MX880

Try to set the remote control; with an other code said for your device. Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. It has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. One among it has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. Pull up older posts. Search the sites by type in the brand name to your device in its search box at the top right part of the display window. It will help you to find the document easily.

Tv won't turn on

Are you using a remote, or try to turn on manually. If your remote does not work, it needs to be programed to your t.v. And all remotes and t.v.s have different codes. Sometimes your cable provider will help you program your remote, or reset your cable box. My remote for my cable was not programmed, so I had to read the instructions myself to get the remote to work with the cable box channels.

Remote control sensor doesn't work when the room is dark.

its probably the led in the remoter, check with a camera on a phone point the camera at the remote if its dim, that's the problem, it could also be a damaged battery in the remote.

Should be controllng one box. is controlling 2 boxes

Unfortunately, there is no solution for this issue.  The remote control sends out an infrared signal, which can be picked up as far as 40' away from the device.  And to make things worse, the signal will reflect off any surface such as glass, mirrors, or even brightly painted walls.
The only way to solve the problem is to block the path of the beam to the other room.  This may require closing a door or drawing heavy drapes closed.

No Sound

First of all try getting a Symphonic remote - http://www.miracleremote.com/ not that expensive. Then you can access all areas of the TV, including all sub menus and see how the audio is set-up.. Could be you have it in SAP mode, (Second Audio Programming), in which case you will hear nothing...
