Olympus C-4000 & C-4040 Battery Problems

Hi - did you ever figure out what your battery problem was with the C-4040? I have the C-4000 and new or barely used batteries show up as low? It's really frustrating! I gave up using the rechargeables also as they did the same thing. Should I get some new Li-ion batteries?

I have the exact same problem for my camera d40 zoom.

Exactly the same problem with my C-4040. Was working prefectly for years and today it started giving the "flat battery" warning and shutting itself down afterwards. Changed batteries, checked their voltage and they're fine. Damn...it was a really nice camera.

Same problem also... sent to repair center... the tech tell to me that the complete electronic need to be changed... it cost near the same price than a new one to change it... so no repair!
Mine also work long time if you don't take picture... but if you press button to do focus, low batt sign appear... same thing if you put the camera in film mode. I think the problem come with the focus motor or function who drain energy from batt.

I have the C-4000.  Don't have any battery problems but will say that the lithium batteries last way longer than either regular alkaline or rechargeables.

I have the same problem with my C-4000, and I know someone else with a similar model with the very same problem. Fully charged batteries will briefly read read as full, then moments later drop to near dead (usually after taking the first photo), and then shortly thereafter the camera goes dead.

This is a great camera and has suited me just fine as a point and shoot backup to my SLR. After hearing about so many people with similar problems, I almost feel like Olympus built in a fault in order to encourage people to buy their latest and greatest cameras.

I think the only solution here is a class action lawsuite against cannon. There are way too many people complaining about the same failure here. I don't think the battery is really becoming drained because if i pop the batter back out and turn it back on, the battery shows up full again. I think it is a problem with the electronics that read the battery level. Someone should make a list of names and start a lawsuit.

A new set of batteries after 3-5 snaps saying Low battery. what could be the problem ?

  • Hi, this can happen due to failure in detecting battery level, (sensor problems) if this case you can use the camera eve though it says low battery,
  • in the other case the battery might be low power model, for this you have to check the battery label ( ex:- 2000mAh). see wheather it matches with the original batteries.
  • also can happen due to camera malfunction, for example the software or display may be running even when it is turned off.

Olympus MJU 760 Battery dies after a couple of

First step to trouble shoot. Connect a low voltage ohm-meter to the battery contacts inside the camera. Try to turn camera on. If you get a reading, write down the number of ohms. If possible, compare this with a brand new one, if store will let you. Or call the USA distributor. If ohms number is way low, you have problems inside the camera. If number is normal, the battery is no good.

Olympus C-765 - won't take photos anymore. Memory card is fine and camera has worked perfectly for the past two years. Does anybody have a solution? The camera seems to function as normal, but when I press...

Reset the menus to default or factory settings.
Then test the camera again.
Make sure that the battery is fully charged or new.
You might consider to buy a new battery (Ebay is a good place) for this camera. Then test.
Problems like this can show up when the battery is weak or not fully charged.
You may try to remove the battery for 24 hours and then after try it again.

Olympus FE310 Series, Battery Problem

Hi, I have had the same problem with the battery not working.  I have changed batteries several times, with no change.  I bought the camera when I was pregnant so I could have a camera in my bag to take spontaneous photos of my baby but was disappointed at the birth and ever since because the battery is not dependable! I took it into the shop and was informed there could be a $90 charge if there is no mechanical problems... :-((

Olympus camera: battery empty

OK, here's the answer. You won't find it anywhere else, but here it is.

If you use rechargable batteries, you MUST use ones with a respectable capacity. 2000mah are probably not enough. You need 2400mah at least. Yes, it doesn't make much sense, in the the battery capacity is supposed to reflect how long they'll last. But the wimpy batteries just won't let this camera turn on.

I have some experience with different battery capacity in this camera, and it took some aggravation to figure this out. But I'm pretty sure this is the answer.

The higher capacity batteries are more expensive, and their hold time is probably not as good. But I get a reasonable amount of usage with them.

My LI42 battery won't charge for my Olympus 790 SW. The charging light comes on, then flashes, then turns off within about a minute. The battery does not charge at all during this time. My manual does not...

Problem is most likely the battery. Try getting a new battery of the same specifications and see. That is the cheaper option. If that still does not work, then it could be the charger.

Battery runs out too quickly

I have the same problem but i figured out a pretty decent soloution. It's sort of a hassle, but it conserves your battery life dramatically. All you have to do is take out the battery (which is kinda fun if you ask me) and store it somewhere safe while not using the camera. You should even do it if you are only leaving it off for a short amount of time. i figured that the camera unintentionally drains your battery life even if off, but obviously cannot when it is out of the camera. i hope this helps you as it did me!
