First try to see if it will allow you to boot into safe mode, or contact the device manufacturer support line.

Also make sure you read the manual completely before installing the scanner.

You could also try installing the scanner on another computer, register a fingerprint online, then plug the device back into your laptop and you should now have a fingerprint registered online.

I am the only administrator password holder on my computer.

Hi ,
Here is how you can unlock your profile account :

1. Enter a computer that can link to Internet. Download Windows Login Recovery and install the software on that computer.
2. Run the software and create windows password reset disk by follow the instructions.
3. Eject the created CD/DVD and insert it into the locked computer.
4. Reboot the locked computer (it's necessary for you to change your locked computer's BIOS setting to make it boot from CD drive) and then follow the instructions to reset your password.
5. Now login Windows and set a new password.

Hello, I recently had a Toshiba Sattelite L455 that suddenly promped for a BIOS password on startup. There was never a bios password set for this laptop. So I found a workaround using the onboard...

You hit the correct jumpers for this model to remove the motherboard bios lock, which shows you have done your homework well. Toshiba, like Dell set a bios lock and HDD lock on some laptops for security reasons, often when the cmos battery needs changing, it manifests itself.

As to why you got this request for a bios pass is very odd, if you did not change the cmos battery, however, removing the battery as you state would not fix the hard drive problem. The hard drive will remain locked and if, as I suspect, it is a security measure, you will not be able to remove it and externally access files or even format it by slaving it in another computer or docking station.

Your best solution would be to contact a Toshiba service centre and explain the problem and ask them for a bios unlock code. IF this was installed at the factory, they should be able to remove it (you WILL be asked to provide proof of ownership)

I have heard of some laptops being "time locked", which is where the time/ date settings in the bios trigger a request for a bios password for security purposes, but never actually seen this occur. This might explain why the bios pass request appeared randomly as it did. There is the possibility that this was caused by a virus, although, again, I've never heard of this happening.

Pasword on bootup

This is a bios lock password, designed to prevent theft or data theft if the laptop is stolen. Did you attempt to replace the Bios battery? Usually, this causes the machine to request a Bios pass and this can only be done (unless you want to spend an eternity using a bios cracking software utility) by an IBM service technician who will need to reset the bios password for you.

Even if you managed to crack the bios pass, the hard drive is usually locked in a similar fashion

If however it is an OS pass you can download a utility such as Ophcrack, burn it to Cd and boot from it to unlock the OS password (using another computer to do so of course). I'm giving this latter advice on the assumption that you DO own the laptop.

I have a sony pcg-grt360 laptop, and I need to install XP from external cd-rom - I can not get into the bios to make the changes to select boot sequence - I need to remove the existing password

Unfortunately this laptop uses the restrictive style of BIOS password. Meaning if you can remove the cmos battery there is a good chance it will not forget the password.

Unfortunately the only way to truly clear it is to replace the whole motherboard which is a nightmare, especially with an older machine like this.

Are you sure there is no way you can get the BIOS password / remember it? I assume that is what is going on, correct?

Please let me know, just reply to my answer here...

Thanks

My computer has an unknown bios lock that i must pass to be able to load my computer how do i bypass it

To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

HELP!!!! ---- HP Notebook (zx5060us) Asks for Bios Password Now...

Hi,
If the system boots to a windows screen, then asks for a password, it's definitely NOT a bios password, but a windows operating system password. Either way, if we had it here at the shop, I could have it done in a few minutes; to bad you're not in Tulsa.
What makes you think it's a bios password?
Good luck
