Question about Arris Wireless G Broadband Router (wr850g)

1 Answer

I cant figure out my password

When i go to my Default Gateway two Boxes pop up, 1 for a username and another for Password. After various internet searches i learned that the standard password/username is Admin-Motorola. But when i tried this the password was incorect. I asked everybody in my family if they had changed the password, and none have. I was wondering how i can find the existing router password.

Thank You

You can reset the router, There is a reset button when you press and hold it will change the settings to factory default, so you can use default password.

Good Luck

Where do I get the code

Almost all routers and access points have an administrator password that's needed to log into the device and modify any configuration settings.

Most devices use a weak default password like "password" or the manufacturer's name, and some don't have a default password at all.

As soon as you set up a new WLAN router or access point, your first step should be to change the default password to something else.

You may not use this password very often, so be sure to write it down in a safe place so you can refer to it if needed.

Without it, the only way to access the router or access point may be to reset it to factory default settings which will wipe away any configuration changes you've made.

This can be done by opening your internet browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc.) and typing in the address bar 192.168.1.1.

Once you hit enter, an authentication panel would pop-up requiring you to enter a username and password.
Note: If entering 192.168.1.1 does not bring up anything, your default gateway may not be that.

For Windows, just go to Run command (Windows Start button, then click Run), and then type "CMD".
A DOS prompt would pop-out and you would just need to type, "IPCONFIG". Look for the words "Default Gateway", the numbers beside it are the ones you need to enter into your browser

Usually, its 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 so most likely you wouldn't have to do that.
Another Note: The usual username and password is "admin" (without the quotes).
For some routers, the username is admin, and the password is blank.

How do I find my Network Key..or Password

If you forgot or do not know teh network / passkey of your wireless router you have to follow the following procedure to know the password (i am assuming that you have windows)

1. Connect your router directly to your computer (disconnect your cable / DSL internet from the router)
2. Use the Switch ports (ports marked 1 to 4 to connect to your computer / Do not use the internet port or WAN port in your router to connect to the computer)
3. Open command prompt (Start - Run - Type CMD and hit enter
4. Type IPCONFIG and hit enter. (not down the numbers next to Default gateway (it should be in the format 192.168.1.1 etc).
5. Type exit and hit enter
6. Open the internet explorer and type the default gateway you noted and hit enter
7. You should get a small popup asking for username & password - type
admin (username)
password (password) if this does not work (type admin for password also)

if this username and password does not work then you need to reset the router. (Please refer to the manual for this process)

8. if the username & password works you should be able to access the router page, then you need to click on wireless settings on the router page and then know or change your wireless passkey.

Please reply to the post if you need further assistance.

How can i put a password in my wifi for privacy

1. Access the Administration Panel of your Router This can be done by opening your internet browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc.) and typing in the address bar 192.168.1.1.
nitin_master.png Once you hit enter, an authentication panel would pop-up requiring you to enter a username and password.
nitin_master_0.png Note: If entering 192.168.1.1 does not bring up anything, your default gateway may not be that. For Windows, just go to Run command (Windows Start button, then click Run), and then type "CMD". A DOS prompt would pop-out and you would just need to type, "IPCONFIG". Look for the words "Default Gateway", the numbers beside it are the ones you need to enter into your browser
nitin_master_1.png Usually, its 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 so most likely you wouldn't have to do that. Note: The usual username and password is "admin" (without the quotes). For some routers, the username is admin, and the password is blank. If you haven't changed this, the username and password is the default. If you don't know the default username and password, you could check it at www.routerpasswords.com

2. Set the SSID or Username When you're inside the Administration panel, just go to Basic Wireless Settings and find the setting for Wireless Network Name or SSID.
nitin_master_2.png You should key in your desired username on the field of Wireless Network Name or SSID. Don't forget to Save the Changes you made.
nitin_master_3.png Note: Notice that I've enabled Wireless SSID Broadcast? If it's enabled, once a computer detects connects to your router, the computer would just need to key-in the password. If it's disabled, you would have to key-in the username and password before you could connect. Although it is more secure to set Wireless SSID broadcast set to disable, some of my devices (especially mobile phones) can't connect when it is disabled. So, I had to enable SSID Broadcast.

3. Set the Password. You should now go to Wireless Security. There you would see the Security Mode. To make things simple, just choose WPA Personal. (UPDATE: For bettery security, you can choose WPA2 Personal - the next steps would still be the same)
nitin_master_4.png You should now set a password by entering one under WPA Shared Key.
nitin_master_5.png After that, save the changes you made again. And there you have it. It's very easy to set a username and password for your Wireless Router or Wi-Fi router. Once you set one, only those who you have informed of the password would be able to connect and use your Internet connection through your Wireless router - so keep your password safe.

Want to change user name and pass word

You can do so by opening the GUI page of the router:

First connect it to the computer through a Ethernet wire and then check the default gateway (go to command prompt and type ipconfig)

put in the default gateway address in the internet explorer address bar

Log in to GUI..the default username and password is following

Username: admin
Password: admin

or

Username: admin
Password: password
Log in and change the username and pasword...you would also be able to change the wireless password (WEP key) from same

That is the default user/pass, if it has been changed from default, you will have to reset the router and then use the defaults I gave.

If I reset my router, do I need the CD to reconfigure or change the password

You don't actually need the CD to reconfigure your router or change the password or anything related to your router. So long as the router is connected to your computer via ethernet cable you can access the browser configuration page of your router.

1. connect your router to your computer via ethernet cable

2. If you are using Windows XP
- click start
- click run
- type cmd
- in the black screen type ipconfig and press enter
- look for the default gateway (example 192.168.1.1)
- Open Internet explorer
- type in the address bar: http://the default gateway (example http://192.168.1.1) then press enter and it'll ask you for the password
- usually the username is blank and the password is admin or the username is admin and the password is pass or password

If you are using Windows Vista / Windows 7
- Click the pearl button
- Click on start search at the bottom of the pop-up window
- type cmd (don't press enter yet)
- right click the black icon on the top of the window after typing cmd
- click on the run as administrator
- click on continue if there's a prompt
- in the black screen type ipconfig and press enter
- look for the default gateway (example 192.168.1.1)
- Open Internet explorer
- type in the address bar: http://the default gateway (example http://192.168.1.1) then press enter and it'll ask you for the password
- usually the username is blank and the password is admin or the username is admin and the password is pass or password

After successful accessing the configuration page you can now configure your router freely.

Need to change netgear router rp614 from dsl to cable

Hello

First connect one of the ethernet ports (LAN) to your computer.

In windows to this:

XP: Start -> Run -> write CMD and press ok-> Black window pops up-> write IPCONFIG and press Enter. -> Look for Local ethernet connection and write down the ip adress outside default gateway (f.ex 192.168.0.10 or 10.0.0.1).
Vista: click windowsmenu icon-> write CMD in search field and press enter -> Black window pops up-> write IPCONFIG and press Enter. -> Look for Local ethernet connection and write down the ip adress outside default gateway (f.ex 192.168.0.10 or 10.0.0.1).

Open a webbrowser and clear det adress field, enter the adress (with the dots and no www.) you wrote down from default gateway and press enter.
If you get promted for a username and password the default is: username: admin password: password (you can find it on the side of the netgaer box under deafult accsess.
If you cant get in try to do a "hard reset" (push the reset button for 30 sec with a pen).

You are now in the web user interface for you netgear.

On your lefthand side, you should have a blue menu, click on the first option on the top and run the setup wizard, dont change anything (dont choose that your connection needs a password to connect) just use the default settings. Remember to press save on the botom.

You should now be ready to use your netgear router.

If this guide didnt fix your problem, i need more details to help you.
Check with your new service provider if they require a username and password to connect (PPPoE).
