Question about Televison & Video
Just connect the output of the DVD to the DVR and the DVR to the TV. Unfortunately, you'll have to have the DVR on to play the DVD but if you have the DVR why would you need to play on the DVD but just to use it as a source to the DVR.

Slide down the cover on remote control.On the bottom right side you'll see a little switch(usually is cowered with the warning white little sticker).Slide that switch to DVD1(or DVD2 if somebody got different setting).Power up DVD/VCR combo press system menu botton,go to settings,change to DVD3(factory default)and there you go.Good luck.
