Question about Gateway MX3228 Notebook
Overheating is a big issue with Gateway. It mostly involves problems with the fan. When Gateway receives a warranty fan problem they replace it with a fan that is reconditioned or rebuilt (probably from another cutomer's unit like yours) and they don't seem to last long. To make sure it is a fan problem, which is the most common, Turn on the laptop and wait to see if the fan is turning on. It won't take long, processors get hot quick. The fan should turn on and run anywhere from 3 to 15 seconds then turn off. It should do this approx every 5 to 7 minutes in order to keep the processor cool. If it doesn't work at all, works seeming sporadically, or the processor gets really hot before the fan starts, then it's a fan problem, and a NEW fan should be purchased. If the fan works properly, then it could be that the fan and heat sink need to be cleaned internally due to dust build up.
