old or new generation model? it might just need a good cleaning with one of those dvd cleaner cds you can buy. I have a game in general "home front" that sounds like my box is gonna blast off.
This is probably due to the DVD laser diode being faulty. The CD laser diode is a separate diode (within the same unit). If this is the case then you need a replacement laser unit.
By the problem you have described, i beleive you have a modded Xbox 360 used to play copied games, if yes you need to check what game are you playing.
If it is a latest game, then you would require a Wave 4 patch to play copied games on a modded Xbox 360, you can google on the web to find out the list of games that require wave 4 patch to run before you play the game on Xbox 360
What you need to do is first burn the Wave 4 patch on a Dual Layer DVD and load the game disc first and you would see "play CD" option, now take out the game disc and enter the Wave 4 patch disc you just burned and again you would see "play CD" option.
DO NOT PLAY the CD, just take it out again and re-insert your copied game CD in your Xbox 360 and you should be good to go.
Are you using copied CD's of Xbox games, Original Xbox 360 would read such copied game discs as normal DVD's and would show a message as "Play DVD"
To play such games it requires the Xbox 360 DVD drive to be flashed, which is called as a Softmod, if you do so you would be banned for playing on Xbox Live and such act is prohibited since it accounts to game piracy
You have to understand that the xbox dvd drive is married with 360 motherboard by firmware...
when you try to change drives you should backup your original drive firmware...and load it in another drive...it will runs as well in your console...or if you prefer just change the optical lens inside the drive...and you won´t need to re-write firmware....
It sounds like you replaced the DVD Drive... Xbox 360 DVD drives are "married" to the original xbox they were in with a specific key that needs to be extracted and reinjected into the target drive. This needs to be done by someone qualified to do so.
