Question about Computers & Internet

Dvd rom Hi TampaN, I have a compaq nx9010 laptop with a toshiba sd c2612 dvd rom. I am using windows xp professional 5.1 sp2. Since I have reinstalled the windows, the dvd rom does not work properly. If I put any kind of discs into the drive it would recognize as an audio cd with some kilobytes of size. I tried plenty type of Windows install but none of them worked, and plenty modes of driver and firmware updates but all of them were in vain. I have read about this at the microsoft home page(DMA and PIO settings)but I have not understood.. There were a computerist-as you-who found a solution one year ago. He installed and made some changes at the windows, and worked well. Unfortunately I had to reinstall the xp last week but I can not make a contact with that computerist anymore. I am looking forward to hearing from you Thank you Lazlo

    Hi there,

    Thank you for your respond!

    Unfortunately none of them works.
I tried both way,but nothing changed.
I forgot to tell you that the dvd rom is working in DOS mode,so I can boot from the device.
Just when the Windows has been started up it does not work.

Hello

To isolate the issue please perform following steps.

Click Start and select Run . In the Run box type devmgmt.msc and press enter. This will open Device Manager.

Click on + sign next to CD/DVD drive and right click on all the devices listed unde CD/DVD drive and select uninstall. Then restart the notebook. This will automatically install CD/DVD drive drivers. This should resolve the issue. However, if the issue persists please download and install following dougnox patch if you are using XP operating system.

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs

Please make sure that if you are using XP then only try to download and install above dougnox patch.

This will resolve the issue.

Thanks

My Toshiba SD-C2612 8X Slim DVD will not read cds. I just updated the firmware in my laptop for this drive and it still wont read cd's. get can not read d: error. I reinstalled it and everything.

Try a lens cleaner, probably wont solve the problem, the drive's optics for the cd side are failing dvd's still work, if you must read cd's replace the drive or use a external cd drive.

Need drivers for Compaq Presario 5FR122

You can download the drivers for the MB, Video, audio, modem, & LAN etc. for your model Compaq from www.compaq.com
You do not need drivers for DVD ROM and CD-RW, you may need some software/plug-ins for to play DVD movies.

DVD not working

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Non-system disk or disk error

Is you cd-rom drive shot - are you trying to boot up your computer through an xp or windows cd? If it is, it's not going to recognize and boot up. You'd be best getting a new drive - look around for someone with a Compaq Evo 800cp. They have the same exact cd-rom drive. Here are your compatible cd-rom devices:
TEAC DW-224E-A
or a Compaq DVD-ROM DRN-8080B
otherwise try a HP SD-C2612. I have these three drives. They all work really well.

Dvd-rom trouble

Hi, first of all, I'd check if you have the problem with CD/DVDs burned (written on a CD/DVD writer) or you have it also with original CD/DVDs, which would be weird. Depending on your finding to the above point I'd do one thing or another, but to me does not look like a driver problem. I'd check with Toshiba support if there's a new firmware for your drive, this does improve the media the device can read and correct problems like the one you mention. To know the fimware version you're using, open device manager and go find your drive, right click on it and choose details tab. Normally the firmware revision is the number at the end of the instance. Good luck mate !
