I have an input switch so i can use two machines with the same mouse/keyboard/monitor. Unfortunately in redhat 9, if u switch from a machine and back again, u have lost contact with the mouse and u have to restart x, to get the mouse back. I am using a ps/2 standard mouse. This is probably a xfree 4.3 problem but I cant find a way to fix it? (this problem did not exist in redhat 8.0)
i now found the fix to my own problem on the net: add the kernel option psaux-reconnect. so update /etc/grub.conf so there is a line similar to: kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi psaux-reconnect
xfree86 4.3 does not handle reconnects anymore like 4.2 did. instead it now leaves that to the kernel.
btw complete waste of time in this thread when people talk about their fancy inputswitches (and where you can buy them). i said it worked in redhat 8 but not redhat 9. i am very happy with my low end $20 manual inputswitch and plan to keep it

I also have a mix of machines including RH 9.0. My KVM is the Ultraview from Rose Electronics (high end). I also use IOGEAR's Miniview 4 port KVMs but haven't tested with RH 9.0. A 4 port Miniview, including cables (2 3 foot and 2 6 foot) can be purchased online from CompUSA for approximately $ 110 delivered!

Probably depends on the switch. Seems like some switches actually provide feedback to the machine that you are NOT using at the moment, or something like that.
Anyway, I run a KVM here on the RH 7.3 server and my "development and testing" machine. Currently running RH 9.0. Works fine here.

Exactly the same with me. Logitech 3-button wheel mouse with PS/2 connector. I have a mechanical KVM and on R.H. 8 this was fine. I have just gone to v9 and it's really annoying. Not only does X have a sulk but alternate times I boot kudzu adds/deletes the mouse from the configuration. The other machine sharing the KVM is a Windows box, but I don't really think that would be an issue.
The Logitech mouse part number is 851393-0000, it's an OEM item and I can find very little information about it.
Any help is gratefully received.

It definitely depends on the switch. In our cubicles, we use consumer-grade Belkin two-port switches (~$100 or less at Fry's) and they have problems with keyboard lockup on more finnicky OS'es -- particularly Windows NT boxes.
In the development lab, we use more expensive enterprise-class KVM switches from Raritan -- a 2-port can go for almost $300. But they never lock up, and never require a reboot. Thus, the extra $200 is definitely worth it in the lab and data center.
