Same Prob .... I don't keep mine on all the time ... access it only when needed.

Nothing changed system-wise ... turned it on, and never connects.

Tried plugging it into multiple laptops ... same result.

Not being able to access my data ... or even the thought of losing it all ... is a nightmare

I just had this issue. I took a small phillips screw driver out and removed the seagate hard drive from its enclosure. I brought the hard drive to a microcenter to verify if the hard was dead or something in the case. The hard drive was fine. I purchased a $15.00 inland 2.o to IDE/ SATA adapter from microcenter. This let me use my drive as I did before. All of my data that was on the drive is still there.

I have the same problem. I have a 500 GB hard drive and my computer will see the hard drive but it won't let me open it. It says "g:\is not accesible incorrect function" I have a lot of data in my hard drive and I don't have it backed up anywhere else so I really need to be able to be able to open the drive.

Take out the hard disk from your case and put it inside a desktop- if there's still some life left in it it will appear in My Computer. If it doesn't appears even there then it's dead for sure and all the data on it is lost.

Light blinking from Blue to Red

  1. 99 times out of 100 this means the hard drive has crashed.
The clicking sound is the key. If the data is critical you may need a specialist to retrieve it, if not, you can take it apart and replace the drive.

External drives with IDE drives get very hot because there is no fan in them usually. I recommend leaving it off unless you are using it. I have had hard drives crash on several very expensive ones...and they are usually only warranteed for a year.
