Question about Kenmore 31913 Progressive Direct Drive Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Kenmore 31913 Upright

The Agitator Bush will not turn Suddenly stopped while I was vacuuming. I pushed the reset button, but that did not solve the proble, I checked to make sure that there were no threads tangled up. It can turn manually. Also, the light will not go on.

I have the same issue. Mine started when I got stuck on my area rug (a normal occurance) and now it acts like it is stuck on the floor option. It is not self propelling or anything and the light dims after being turned on initially.

I have a Kenmore Progressive with Direct Drive and I have the same problem. The hose works, I hear the suction working but my beater brush is not working.  I tried to push the reset button but nothing happened.  This vacuum is only a few months old.

Has anybody figured out why the agitator brush stops turning?? Thanks

I have the same problem.  Anyone found a solution?

Sears wnats a minimum of $80 to look at it. I've heard a lot of people have this problem.

Ouch...same problem, no apparent solution. Ours died when my wife accidentally sucked in the Xmas tree skirt. She quickly shut the unit off, but the damage was done. I took the whole thing apart and could not see a reason for the roller not to turn. However, I found that it is and electro-magnetic roller, so something beyond my knowledge/capability has failed. Please, someone come up with an answer.

In the meantime, we bought a Bissell from Costco.

Same problem with beater bar no longer working after sucking in xmas tree skirt. Pressing reset button does not appear to work. Anyone find the issue or know how much to repair?

My problem sounds very similar, if not the same.

Mine won't self-propel, unless the handle is lowered to a ridiculous
angle (unless you happen to be very short). When you lower the handle
though, it lifts the agitator/brush off the floor surface so it is
useless anyway. I can turn the agitator off and on by lifting and
lowering the handle- there is a precise point where it stops. The
reset button has not popped up.

It is about 2 years old. Anyone know what part could be failing to cause this?

The agitator brush does not work at all. I didn't **** in anything but I cleaned off the roller completely. Still won't work. I changed the bag, nothing. The reset button has not popped out. No one had an answer yet?

Agitator doesnt turn

There is actually a reset button on the agitator, I would try pushing this switch first to see if this fixes it. The button is located on one of the sides of the agitator housing, I'm not sure if it's the left or the right side, or on the top of it.

Look on the sides of the part of the vacuum that is on the floor and see if you can see a small red pole on either side. If you can't find it here, look on the top of the part of the vacuum that touches the floor for a brush overload reset switch.

Try pushing that poll whenever you find it. This switch is a protection mechanism that will shut the brushes down to protect them if something gets vacuum up inside of the brush, it will automatically shut itself off to prevent any damage.

Simply push this overload switch down, and this should hopefully fix your problem.

If this didn't, please let me know and I can walk you through some more advanced troubleshooting.

If this was helpful, please be so kind and rate my repair, or leave feedback.

Thank you!

The brush has stopped turning when used in the upright position

I have one too and I'm trying to fix it as I write this.I also have an older version and I've had no luck.I've taken evey screw out ,spayed tweeked and tried everything possible.my solution would be to stay away from Hoover steam spin scrubs.I'm going to invest in one with brushes like a vacuum. Those that are easily replaced as well as the drive for it be it a belt or a turbine like I've read this unit has

The brush is not rotating

Try pushing the reset button with a pen or paper clip. If that doesn't work, the motor may need to replaced. If the reset button is stuck, I don't know how to fix it - mine has the same problem.

Kenmore Model 116 upright beltless vacuum, agitator will not turn

I had the same problem. The agitator stopped turning after I sucked up a foreign object (my wife's watch) and it got jammed in the intake. After removal of the watch the agitator did not spin when turning on the machine, and the reset button never deployed (it remained buried in its housing and would not depress with a paper clip). The agitator was not bound and I could manually move it in both directions with ease. Faced with prospect of paying $125 or more for a repair, a good sharp kick to the chassis from the top promptly fixed the problem. I have found that kicking malfunctioning electronics often works.

Motor on our kenmore progressive agitator is not

Look for a reset button on the motor and press it in. If it clicks, then it was tripped. An excessive load on the motor can make the reset trip. Try turning the motor shaft to make sure that it is not bound up. Run the machine empty for a short time to see if it works. Good luck!

Agitator wont turn

Some of these have a resetable circuit breaker, if it has one, push it. There is a motor on the brush roll which could be bad. There also is an on/off switch, it may have a problem. Also may have a switch where the hose goes into, some models have a actuator for the switch, when the hose is pushed in, it actuates the switch so the brush roll motor turns on and stops when you pull the hose out.
