I have a GE GSF25TGTB that has twice gotten warm enough to melt the ice in the bin and drip water all over the food in the freezer. I have checked the thermistors in test mode and #5 shows O (open). I thought #5 was the freezer thermistor and I replaced it, but still get O when testing #5. Can you tell me where #5 is located and if there is something else I should check? Thank you.

GE side by side refrigerator model no TFG20JAWWW 627 litre is occasionally leaking water

Check the drip tray in the freezer section where defrost water drips from the defrost heater melting frost during the defrost cycle. If ice blocks the drain hole in the tray inside the freezer(usually behind the evaporator cover) the defrost water will travel into the bottom of the freezer & onto your floor. Some models also have a second evaporator in the fresh food section. A blocked drain or clogged defrost drain tube can cause the problem.

Hello,

The only thing you could do is replace the defrost thermostat...its the part that determines when the defrost heater cuts off....typically it cuts off the heater around 40 degrees (the defost system is comprised of only 3 parts..the heater..the control....and the thermostat)

Loud noise from freezer of GE model GSF25TGTB (Side by side)

Problems not related.  The first is most likely the fan, or possibly water dripping on to the fan and freezing, but usually the noise comes from the fan struggling to run.  The cube problem could be as simple as the ice dispenser being put back in wrong.  There is a metal lever under the ice tray that switches between crushed and cubed.  Make sure it is seated properly.

HOW DO I DEFROST FREEZER

Hi,

Most modern freezers don't need to be defrosted, but should be washed out and cleaned periodically. Following are steps for defrosting freezers that need it -generally when ice builds up to a thickness between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch.

  1. Step 1 Turn the freezer off. Controls may be inside the refrigerator.
  2. Step 2 Remove all food from the freezer and store in an ice chest while you are defrosting.
  3. Step 3 Remove ice in the freezer compartment. This can be done by: a) letting the freezer door stand open until ice melts; b) putting a pan of hot water in the freezer compartment and closing the door, then checking for melting ice and reheating the water every 10 to 15 minutes; c) using a hair dryer by aiming warm air at ice in freezer until it melts.
  4. Step 4 Pick up ice and water as it melts with a dishcloth or sponge and deposit into sink.
  5. Step 5 Use a sponge or dishcloth and a bowl of warm water to thoroughly wipe out inside of freezer once the freezer is cleared of ice.
  6. Step 6 Turn the freezer back on, close the door and let run for 10 to 15 minutes before returning food to the freezer.
  7. Step 7 Put food back into freezer and close the door.

Freezer Does Not Stay Frozen

one of the hardest things to diagnous is food defrosting in the freezer. i found out the hard way about 35 years ago, but not until i banged my head against the wall a few times. the problem was the customer didn't have enough food in the freezer as she was a weekender.frozen food needs frozen food to keep the food frozen confused? so was i . every time your refrigerator goes into defrost( usually every 8 hours) a heating coil comes on in the back of the freezer. if the freezer is not full enough this heater can raise the temperature in the freezer to 40 degrees which will soften the food and melt the ice considering the time it takesto refreeze the food. i never forgot that service in fact i can see it in my head right now.. try this cure first let me know
