Question about Olympus SP-350 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Troubles Transferring, now power

I was unable to transfer photos to the Olympus Master program, it would say "device not ready". So I accepted the update/upgrade for the camera, and then for the software, and now i can't even turn the camera on...the green light just flashes.

I did follow the directions on the screen for the firmware update and I just went back and looked and it does not mention holding any buttons. Unfortunately, now it won't even recognize that i have a camera attached...sounds like I ruined the camera somehow...?

You are describing a software and firmware update.
The software update should not have any effect on the camera start-up, but the firmware update could.
Please check to see if there were any instructions sent with the firmware files (like a Read Me file or release notes), which might give you special instructions for properly loading the firmware. Some manufacturers require that you hold down certain buttons on the device when power cycling to load the firmware.
Also ALWAYS be sure to have newly charged batteries of the right type, because a power failure in the middle of a firmware upgrade can ruin a device, requiring service.
Go to their web site to get details about the firmware update, if you are sure you did infact update firmware. Also, their tech support should be able to assist you with additional issues if their recent release is problematice for any reason.
Good luck.

Did you get a message from the device that indicated that you updated the firmware successfully/completed the update?
If so, try removing the SD card from the device. It is possible that they have a bug which does not remove the firmware after update, but hangs the device if the firmware update version matches what is already on the device.
If the camera starts successfully with the card out, do the following:
    1. use a card reader to view the contents, copy the files from your DCIM folder to get all of your pictures off.
    2. reformat the card to clean off the card.

    >>If you have an AC adapter or a dock, try to start up the camera using that, to see if the problem is simply power.

Be sure your batteries are fully charged and of the right type, as it may just be a coincidence that the camera is not starting up fully at this time.

If still no good, and you never got confirmation the the upgrade was successful, you should contact the manufacturer, and they should be able to help you. They can fix this issue, even if you cannot.
Good luck, and please let me know how it turns out.

Transferring photos

I solved my problem by using the camera card in the scanner/copier and fron there transfer the picture to a file that way. Then I was able to burn them on to a CD. It did not solve my problem with Olympus Master and how to access a way to a file.

Thank you for your support and website.

You can transfer the photos directly from the camera to the PC using the USB cable that came with the camera. You don't need to transfer the pics to memory card first.

Connect the cable to the camera and the PC. Turn on the camera and your PC will recognise it as an external storage device. Use the PC's software to transfer the photos from camera to PC.

Once you have the pics on the PC you can use the Olympus Master software included with the camera to edit and archive the photos on the PC.

Transferring images from Olympus Master Folder

You have to buy the upgrade to Olympus Master 2, to be able to burn images to a disc.  Olympus Master doesn't allow you to.  I get around it by manually saving my images in an additional folder on my computer and then burn them to disc from there.  It's a slow process and very inconvient.  Good luck.

your memory card has a virus! try formatting using camera. make it a habit that whenever you reinsert the memory card in your camera format it first before taking shots, this will erase everything including virus! you may also try another memory card. Check also your pc, are you sure you didnt install any program recently? Some program installed may have conflict with another program like in your case.
