    Hi

    Like lots of others I have a new Lexmark All in One printer ( in my case the X3580) It is very nice and I can print but scanning is not easy and I cannot install the Lexmark Imaging Studio software which is the hub for doing copying, scanning and printing. I constantly get error message from Windows saying that the Lexmark Device Monitor and the Imaging studio have stopped. Actually they have never started!

    I have checked numerous bulletin boards and Google threads and there are loads of possible solutions most of which I have tried. All those that start - "go into the Lexmark software and.." arfe useless as that is the point we cannot get to it in the first place.
    I also have the same problem as reported elsewhere that the Application list will not download to the printer when in scan mode. I can just about print something from within Windows Picture gallery (which I have never used before) but try anything useful like PSP, or Irfanview, or Photo shop or whatever - all perfectly good TWAIN clients and nothing happens. I also tried WIA as that was shown as an option - no joy.

    I have been in touch with theretailer I bought it from a few days ago and also 4 times with Lexmark in UK. I must say though they have not fixed it yet they have tried, and they have listened to all the things I have already tried.

    I did switch off the FSecure security software, and Windows Firewalla nd Windows Defender which come with Vista ( I am running Business incidentally), I then wnt back and explicitly added all the executables in the Lexmark folders ( I know its ot necessary but if you do not know if one is causing the problem it is all you can do).

    I have allowed as both Server and as client. Incidentally at the beginning FSecure was constantly bring up warning messages that a program was trying to act as an internet server. Normally I would be worried by that but these were always the Windows Subsystem spooler and I think they are just rying to communicate with the computer - after all the printer is another computer and whether via USB or wireless is forming a network.

    I also wnrt through a simialar procedure first killing of the Windows Firewall and Defender and then where possible allowing at leastr the critical Lexmark program through. So far no joy.

    I downloaded from the web site (lEXMARK) UPDATED VERSION OF THE DRIVERS CJB3500-4500 etc and instlled them after uninstalling the existing sytem. I downloaded two patches which explicitly on their site describe exactly the situation where the application lisrt will not download from the computer (actually crossload would be more accurate) I ran one and later the other and still no joy.

    I also downloaded a register.bat file whch was recommended to change and update - basically reregister many of the DLLs.

    This gave me my second clue - whilst that was happenign I notivced that several of the files were "access denied". As many of you know Vista has a good but really anoying security feature called UAC, which pos up every few minutes to make sure it isallowed to do things. I tried swiching it off and went through the process again. No joy.

    Yet something was bugging me. Before I had this new machine I had a similar problem with my HP which had worked fine up till a few days ago. Access denied to some of the core files in System32. I am pretty savvy about the security aspects but it is really complex. There are matterrs of propagation and lots of variables so I do not recommend people fifddle around this unless they know what they are doing. Yet I really feel that part of the whole problem is to do with the fact that the software is not getting proper communication with the computer and I believe it may be a permissions issue.

    The actual detailed error message - see below - is saying that kernel32 a core bit of windows is the cause, and if you examine the properties-security tab you will see that even SYSTEM has very few permissions. The "user" whichj has full permissions is "TRUSTED INSTALLER". Now as I pointed out to the tech people in Lexmark this morning - if their software cannot communicate with the PC and in particular with the NT API for Dlls - ie kernel32 it is never going to work. Their R & D people are now loo=king into these suggestions and have promised to call me tomorrow am. How they become TRUSTED INSTALLER is do not know.

    I do not have an answer but I am more sure than ever that this is at least part of the solution. There are so many red herrings around but this is my strong conviction based on what I am seeing. The LXimon and LXdiamon.exe also fail with the dsame error.
    Finally in support of this I installed the complete software from the same disc with no problem on my business laptop last night ( running XP !!! - after downgrading from Vista when it was in terrible shape last year) I then tried out copying everything to a 2GB memory stick and running it the Lexmark app from the sticj whilst in my Vista computer - no joy! For me that is conclusive that this is a Vista/Lexmark compatibiliuty issue. By the way the greeting card application whixh is close to 600mb ran perfectly well and indeed run under vista on my destop, but the core software no.

    I have the same problem with a Lexmark X5320 running on Windows XP. I too have tried several solutions and visited the Lexmark site and all was for nought. I sure would like to find a way to get around this problem. If anybody has any ideas, please post.

Contact Lexmark tech support. They did a download for me because my x5320 is a 32 bit and my laptop is a 64 bit. It worked fine. they did the "let me drive" option.

If your pc tels you its downloading application, have a look a your printer drivers, your usb cable connecting your pc to printer and or the data cable inside the scanner might have gone faulty

Please backup the data by logging in to Safe Mode, please restart and start pressing F8 key to select Safe Mode then re-install the Windows 7 Operating System using the Recovery Disc or recovery Partition of the Hard Drive. The Recovery Partition can be accessed by restarting the computer and try pressing F10 Key. The Windows XP Operating System is displaying an error because it does not have SATA Driver to detect the Hard Drive. As Windows 7 has it, you can re-install it from recovery partition.

Everytime i log in..i cant open my ym..but im connected with the internet also..i use the yahoo mail as well..only ym i cant open..


1. Reboot your computer.
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del on your keyboard. This will bring up the Windows Security window. Click the "Task Manager" button and then click the "Task Manager" tab.
3. You will see a list of files/applications. These are the applications running in the background on your system, whether they show on your taskbar or not. Any one of these applications could be causing a conflict with the Yahoo! Messenger installation.
4. Click the top item on the list to highlight it. Then hold the "Shift" key down and click the last item on the list. This should highlight the whole list.
5. Click the "End Task" button. This will temporarily close all background applications on your system.
6. Click the "X" in the upper right corner to close the Task Manager window.
7. Install Yahoo! Messenger. You should not experience the same issue that you had before.
8. After Yahoo! Messenger is installed,run registry cleaner reginout also reboot your system. All other background applications will return to their original configurations.

I assume you would like to play a DVD on Windows XP and it does not work.

Windows XP does not contain DVD player software out of the box. You need to install third party software for this. Commercially available programs include "WinDVD" (Corel) or "PowerDVD" (InterVideo).
A free alternative is VLC, available here: http://www.videolan.org/

You do not need a manual or special driver for your DVD drive; DVD drives share a common interface and work with Windows using a generic driver.

I have Lexmark X 3550 all in one printer that will not scan


Please let me know the operating system that is installed on your computer (Eg: Window XP, 2000, Vista or Mac OS). Also let us know whether the printer is connected with a USB cable or is it a wireless connection.

Lexmark Scanner - "cannot retrieve application list" Won't Scan - HELP please!


Microsoft Paint ----> 'File' -----> 'From scanner or camera' (while the Lexmark is in scan mode). Just tried it and it really works.

Here's how you get it
you may have to open Windows Media Player but maybe not
a screen will come saying for you to choose either NO leave all the media on the device... or YES delete all media.
click YES but MAKE SURE you have the HOLD button on OFF. if you dont... it will not work
after it completes the task click FINISH

i tried for hours trying to figure it out and that made it work like a charm! =]

This is possible but will take some patience. Install Windows XP & Service Pack 2 Then check what drivers are NOT installed by going to device manager. Then go the the Compaq page that lists the drivers for Vista: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&product=3446906&lang=en Make a note of the name/model of these drivers and search for the XP equivelent usually by visitng the device manufacturers website. Im sorry this is complicated and long winded but its the only way.
