Re: hp 2300 desktop
The message you saw has nothing to do with the installation of you're printer software. Please connect you're printer to the computer & connect the power as per manual. Click on this link. http://www.hp.com/sbso/bussupport.html
Click the circle next to the sentance; Download drivers and software (and firmware). Than click; Start Detection
HP will scan you're system.(There may be a couple screens where you will need to install a HP program & give permission screens). Once done HP will find you're connected printer & download the latest software for you're 2300 printer. Sit back & follow the instructions.

The link below goes to the HP support and driver section. copy and paste the link to your web browser address bar. When the page comes up, scroll down to firmware and choose the proper firmware for your device. Now, you are going to have to go to the start button > programs > accessories > system information. Open the cd/dvd entry and write down the model of the drive. Look for this device in the listed firmware downloads. Download the file and follow the prompts.
Another thing you can do is check all the cable connections and make sure all the cables are seated in the slots. Go to the control panel > system > click on the hardware tab > Device manager. Look down the list and open the cd/dvd device listed. Highlight the device and click the Un-install device. Reboot the computer and let windows recognise the drive, it will then search for an updated driver and install the drive.
It doesn't sound like your problem is with the printer, it sounds like your problem is with the USB drivers for the motherboard. Look in Control Panel and click on System, then click on the Tab that's says Hardware, From there click on Hardware Devices, and when it opens look down on the Systems configuration area and look for a ! in a triangle. If you find one then the problem is the driver. You'll need to go to the manufacturer's site for that Motherboard and download a new USB controller driver, or sometimes there call Chipsets drivers. And that should fix your USB port, if the drivers aren't the problem, then could have a faulty motherboard. Try putting something else that you knows works into that same USB port to see if you get the same response. That will let you know if it's the motherboard, or it could be the Printer or the Cable that your using to connect to.
That's it my friend, there can be no other reasons I can think of.
Good Luck, and don't forget to leave a rating based on my solution.
Unzip it to a folder. Now plug in the printer. The Add New Hardware wizard will pop up, click Advanced and next to continue the installation. Browse to where you unzipped the driver to and select it to execute the installation. When it has installed, reboot.
install the printer driver software first by inserting the driver cd into your cdrom drive while keeping the printer powered on BUT NOT PLUGGED INTO YOUR COMP'S USB PORT , the installation program starts automatically during the course of software inst.. a graphic asks you to plug the printer data cable to the port do that and the inst.. will progress on its own.this is the right way to do it.
