Can't do that. imei is only the phones registration number, it's not a tracker. The only way to locate a phone is if you previously had tracking software installed on it. Other then that, there's no way to trace it anywhere, any how.

Contact your network provider. Give them your IMEI number. They should be able to block your lost phone & make it unusable. The phone then becomes worthless.
If your mobile hand set got stolen, you need to do following things.
1. Submit FIR for your mobile loss, give details of hand set model, color, IMEI number etc.
2. Ask your service provider to track the mobile phone, your mobile phone will be tracked only if the thief are using your mobile hand set with any sim card. If the thief is keeping your mobile switched off, your service provider can not track the mobile hand set location.
3. If you are unable to find your mobile number, insure that at least your mobile handset is locked. The thief can not use (misuse) your mobile with any sim card. You should ask mobile service provider to lock your mobile through IMEI number.
If the thief is smart, he/she can unblock the mobile ( IMEI Unlock ) using the latest software and technology.
Not to worry. Your cell phone operator or the police can help you find it if only you can give them the IMEI number.

are you in India? the law here says that you must lodge an FIR with the police station where you lost the phone, to include the IMEI number. In the FIR you must ask them to approach the service provider to 1. locate the approximate location of the thief/finder and 2. to block the IMEI number. If you cant use it, why should someone else. The phone could only be used as a paper weight.
it is very difficult to find a lost mobile phone unless you ar very lucky.

The right way to get back your mobile is to report the loss of mobile to your service provider, and approach the CYBER CRIME wing of Police dept in your city. They jave a special cell to recover lost mobiles using IMEI number tracking in co-ordination with all Mobile Service providers. you may have to make few rounds to police station, but its worth as they sure track the mobiles.
