Do I have to use Belkin router to be able To use the adapter?

As i understand you have a router provided by your ISP: MTNL, you need to configure the Belkin router in Dynamic mode and not in PPPoE. Then restart the devices by unplugging the power from MTNL router and Belkin. Wait for 20 secs, then power up MTNL router 1st, wait for all lights to get steady and finally power up the Belkin wireless router. Then you will find the modem and internet light lit up properly.

first check whether the gaming ports for xbox have been forwarded in the belkin router or not....if not do it first....if you dont know the port numbers call xbox support and get the list of port numbers to be forwarded....
then enable DMZ for the ip address of XBOX in belkin router...
then enable UPNP in belkin router....
atlast Disable firewall in belkin router.... your XBOX will go online and GET UPDATE..... you can call belkin tech support of your country to assist you to forward ports for XBOX in belkin router... if you reside in USA/Newzealand/Australia/Canada you can call this toll free 1800 2 BELKIN(235546)...... or you can call my personal mobile... I dont think belkin has a stable driver for win.7 at this time. I have a belkin n router with a belkin adapter and had no luck.
Some people have had some success using a Vista driver.
You could go to www.bioticaindia.com and download a win 7 driver there. They show a 48% success rate.

if you have not changed any settings from belkin router, access the wireless configuration on your windows machine and search for the belkin ssid then hit on connect

You need to configure the Belkin router with a SSID and WAP or WEP encryption, Then install the Linksys adapter driver in the computer and then configure the Linksys adapter with the Belkin router settings (ie. the SSID and encryption) before the Linksys can communicate eith the Belkin router.

Make sure to install the USB adapter's driver and utility. If it's installed, you need to use the Belkin WLAN Utility to connect to the wireless network. You should be able to find the signla coming the router and you can connect to it

sounds like a security conflict, if you log onto the router and disable the wireless security will the laptop connect to the internet?

All wireless adapters use the same radio channels so your adapter will work with your router. (If that wasn't the case, it wouldn't be so easy to connect to networks with a laptop with built-in wireless.)

1. Try plugging the router to a different power outlet.
2. Reset the router.
3. Check the power adapter specification of your router and if you have another power adapter that has the same specification then try that power adapter to your router.
4. If using another power adapter and your router will not power on still, it is possible that your router is faulty already.

Your not the only person with a problem with this peticular Belkin item. Take it back and get something different you will NOT get this to install. I hate being the bearer of bad news...but this is the crappiest thing belkin has made yet!
