My Gateway file c0000218 registry failure the registry cannot load the hive /SystemRoot/System/32/Config/System or its log or alternate is. It is corrupt, absent or, not writable.

it sounds like you have a bad sector on the part of the hard drive containing this file. you need to let chkdsk complete the scan as it may be able to recover the corrupt file and isolate the bad sector so its not used again.
if this works backup the system as your hard drive may be failing.

Disk boot failure on compaq presario S7300CL

Hi friend,

The message, "Disk boot failure" often means that the OS is corrupt and needs to be re installed. Try restarting the computer twice or thrice and check whether you can log in to the system. If the same error displays again then you have to re install the OS. But re installing the OS leads to data loss from the hard disk. So at such kind of situations you need a data recovery software to recover your data back. Yodot Hard Drive Recovery is a wonderful data recovery software which performs recovery after disk boot failure.

You need to format your hard disk. Please note that formatting will erase all you data from the hard disk and all the software including the Operating system.

If you have your OS master CD you can insert it in the cd/dvd drive and restart the laptop. This will detect the OS CD and try to install it. In the installation process there is an option "Format your hard drive". You should select that option. Then it will format, mark the bad sectors, create a new boot sector and install the OS. You will be just fine.

Either you DVD is corrupt, OR the DVD reader is not working correctly. It seems the reason the restore failed, is that it "Thinks" the Hard Drive is corrupt, too corrupt to replace the OS on...
The only thing to try now, is to get a Windows install DVD, put DVD in drive and boot from the DVD, then try to install with that, when you get to installing and it asks if you want to Format, do so, format Full NTFS. Then try to proceed to installing. If this too fails then you will need to replace your hard Drive, quite a simple matter.

You might reload your Operating System to correct this. Insert your Recovery disk into your drive, choose DVD as Boot Option, recover your OS.

Cannnot open windows

i think you will have to try to install a fresh copy of windows i suppose you are using Windows Xp, try repairing it but dont press "r" when it tells you that there is windows loaded, press"r" on the second time, this might repair your os, but see that in any case u dont allow the computer to get formatted. if it tells you that the hard disk is corrupted and u need to format it dont format it cause u say that there is important data inside, so remove the hard disk from the computer and connect it to one of your friends computer take out your data and then format the hard disk and reload the software once again

The Hard Disk's file system is corrupted and will be restored

apart from physically reformating the hard drive yourself (taking it out and loading it on laptop or desktop and format, at your own risk), there isn't much else you can do. If the console is still guaranteed then contact sony and they will send you a new one.
If you do format it your self when you replace it in your ps3 you will need to format it again using thier options.

Is this the entire message?

STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file):\System Root\System32\Config\SECURITY or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

If so, may I recommend the following to fix it.

  1. The first possibility is simply corruption in the Windows Registry.
  2. A second option is a component of your system hardware is not compatible with Windows XP or your hard drive has some kind of issue.
  3. The third possibility, a damaged hard drive, is possible even if Windows appeared to run smoothly prior to this bootup problem. Before throwing in the towel, we'll take a closer look at each possibility
Assuming the Windows Registry is simply corrupt, the first thing to attempt is a recovery via the Automatic System Recovery for your particular installation. Since you are attempting to do a system restore, it's possible you already tried this and had it fail. If this is not the case, follow the detailed directions presented in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 307545.

If you attempted your system restore using the OEM provided restore partition or CD and received this error, make sure you don't have any hardware components connected which weren't part of the initial build of your computer.

System restore disks look for specific hardware components. If the original components are missing it occasionally introduces errors in the restore process.

A third possibility is the hard drive is damaged in some way. Many disks have bad sectors and you won't know about them until you attempt to write over the sectors during a specific operation. If you can boot from your install CD, you will be presented with the option to Repair or Recover the Windows XP installation.

Pressing R launches the Microsoft Recovery Console which then asks for the Administrator password. After entering the password, run chkdsk to check the drive for errors by typing chkdsk /r at the command line. If chkdsk finds errors, you may need to use chkdsk /f to repair the errors before proceeding.

I apologize for the lengthy post. Please let me know if this helps, and good luck!

-Thanks

External Hard drive Failure

Seems to me like your MFT of FAT is corrupt. You can go ahead and do a format on it by right clicking and going to format. You should then be able to copy your backed-up files back onto the drive.
