Make sure there is nothing under the key preventing it from making contact. Check for anything that may have fallen in there.

You can always use an external USB keyboard.

  1. Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. In the left pane, click Disk Management.
  3. Check if your drive has a letter assigned! Probably NOT because somehow the system remover this letter. So assign it the letter it had originally

Forgot my password on my compaq

You can delete your password using this tool:

http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/usb110511.zip

Just open that URL and it will download to your computer. Open the .zip file and copy all of the contents to a USB drive, like a flash drive. Then open the command prompt (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt) and enter the following:

X: syslinux.exe -ma X:

Except, instead of X:, enter the letter of the flash drive. (When you're looking at "My Computer," it should say the name of the drive with a letter like F: or G:, that's the letter you use.)

Now you have to boot your Compaq from the USB drive. Plug the flash drive into the Compaq and turn it on, but you have to enter the settings. (Every computer is a little different here, it will tell you a command for setup. Enter this.) Follow the instructions on the screen to get to the Boot Order, and move USB to the top. Then Save and Exit and let your computer start. Follow the on-screen instructions with this program and just delete the password. Once this is done, exit the program properly, restart the computer, made the Hard Drive the first thing to boot from in the settings again, and just hit enter when it asks for a password. You should be in!

If you have any other questions about the program, the walkthrough and FAQs are on this page: http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/

I have a removable drive fire lite usbflb80 drive and I'm trying to open it and it says parameter incorrect. How do I repair this?

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps. If you don't like the letter Windows has assigned to a new drive or you want to organize your drive letters in a certain way, you can change the drive letter. You can assign the letters C through Z to each drive on your computer. A and B are usually reserved for floppy disk drives, but if your computer does not have floppy disk drives, you can assign A and B to volumes. You can see which drive letters are used on your computer by opening Computer. Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation In the Navigation pane, click Disk Management Right-click the partition or drive that you want to change, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths. Do one of the following To assign a drive letter if one has not already been assigned, click Add, click the letter that you want to use, and then click OK To remove a drive letter, click Remove, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to remove it. You might need to do some diagnostics to find out what is wrong. If you have nothing to lose, format the Drive.

Give this a try....

-> Is there power to the hard drive? -> Is there a pop up stating that new hardware is found, but cannot open the hard drive?
Lets try something: Ok, there are a few steps that I need you to do...
with your Hard drive plugged into the computer, goto:
-> DESKTOP (front page of the computer)
-> right click on MY COMPUTER
-> left click on MAP NETWORK DRIVE
-> left click on the DRIVE Z:
-> now that this is open, look for an open drive (ex:O,P,Q - do not pick A,C or Z drive), so we won't wreck another drive when creating a spot for your Hard drive and remember the open drive letter, and close off this page.

Now that you have the drive letter:
-> Right click on MY COMPUTER
-> left click on MANAGE
-> look for DISK MANAGEMENT and left click on it
-> you should see Volume for SYSTEM and UNKNOWN or REMOVABLE
-> right click on unknown/removable and assign/change to the drive letter from the previous task
-> press ok to save

NTLDR is missing this is the message i get then it says press any key to restart when u do nothing happens

Hi,
remove all the external devices plugged into your computer. and try to restart. if it does not work,
You need to have your Windows XP disk with you to resolve the problem. You just need to copy it directly from the Operating system CD. The NTLDR is responsible for loading Windows so if its is missing or damaged, there's no way you can load Windows back unless you copy it from the CD to your computer.
follow these steps:
1. insert the Windows XP disk in your computer
2.Restart your computer and press f12 to open up the boot menu
3. Select CD/DVDor ODD from the options and repeatedly tap the enter key until you see the "windows is loading files" message.
4. select the option to repair your computer (letter R)
(A command prompt will open)
5. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and press enter.
6. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password. (leave it blank if you do not have a password)
7.type the following:
copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\ (press enter)
copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\ (press enter)
(letter e corresponds to the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive, change it if you have a different letter assigned to that drive. for example: Your DVD drive is drive F, instead of typing "copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\",type "copy f:\i386\ntldr c:\")
8. after succesfully copying the files, type in exit or quit and reboot the computer and allow it to reboot normally.

Hope this helps
