same problem with my 42d72u 42" Sharp. It was only a year old. thank goodness it just barely made the one year warranty. repair shop said it was some kind of circuit board or some kind of board, don't recall what the exact board was. i bet this is an inherent problem with Sharps. shame since i like the picture of this tv. now i have no confidence in this product. just be warned if you are going to buy their TVs.

If the tv's are still under a warranty program then get a repair tech to check it out They have access to technical websites and will be able to diagnose each individual blink code as they refer to different possible causes according to each specific model

Sometimes the lizards can cause a lot of board wear-off as they being highly conductable and when shorted within the electrical circuit can make the secretions runs into the board therby contaminating and shorting circuits. If you are able to remove and use petrol to wash off the dirt on the board, look for open tracks that have burned or corroded. If you are able to trace and rewire using thin strands of wires , and assuming that no component damage had taken place, you can try this out. If not as suggested you need to find the cost of a new board if a final consensus is taken.
3 blinks indicates lamp door is not on or has not been reinstalled properly. This also could mean the lamp door switch has failed itself. Try removing the lamp door and putting back on, if that doesnt correct the problem then I recommend having the switch replaced.
Hi, Please make sure lamp cover is fixed properly as it was removed to replace/ check lamp in tv. If lamp cover is not fixed, tv will not turn On and red light will blink 3 times. Thanks.
blinking red mean there is problem on one of the boards. it s a computer so it is stopping it to keep it from burning something up the 2-4 seconds is a system check.
How many times is it blinking before there is a pause? Most likely it's blinging 3 x's then pause over and over. That is a lamp switch error. Meaning its not engaged. Try reseating the lamp and making sure it all the way in and try again.
The TV should "blink" a number of times after it fails to start up (the red light blinks a certain number, pauses, blinks a certain number, pauses, etc.). This tell what is wrong with the TV. If the LAMP light is what is blinking, then the lamp needs to be replaced.
Most of the problems with this television are related to the lamp or lamp chamber. If the Television lamp is burned out or worn, or the lamp will not start, then it will not try to come on. There are circumstances where the LAMP light on the front of the TV will not come on, even though the lamp is out. I would try replacing the lamp (which is meant to be user-replaceable). The popping noise you heard could have been the lamp going out.
The lamp chamber door also activates a switch that tells the TV that the door is in place. This switch will sometimes go bad, showing a relatively small amount of resistance, but enough to fool the TV into thinking that the door has not been replaced, causing the TV to shutdown. Make sure that the lamp door is properly replaced if you do remove it. It is no longer available from Sony (too many warped doors from heat damage).
Lamp part number is available in the user manual, as well as instruction on changing it.
There are many things this could be. Have you checked the lamp? If the lamp is ghood, how many times does the red light blink? It will blink a number of times and then pause, and blink the same number again. This si an error code that helps with troubleshooting.
I am a Sharp servicing technician and I have seen this "problem" with this particular model many times. I have tried replacing the Main Board and the Terminal Board and it does not help. The reason i put "problem" in quotes is because I came to the conclusion that this is model is just not that loud. However, a few months after the initial production run, BAM, these TV's are as loud as any other TV on the market so sharp must have caught onto this.
