Question about Canon Pixma MP500 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Hi my canon kept showing this error 5100! whatever i do! nothing works! i tried the reset thing (hold down resume and press power then let go etc) didn't work! then tried to look for obstructions, can't really see anything! please help! i need to print a few sheets!thanx
Also i just got one from a thrift store and found that there is a spring catch that holds the carriage up in the rest position and the spring had sprung and was not holding the carriage up and the ink jets got messed up and spewed ink all over the place lol took me 3 hours to clean the gunk to then find the spring problem..... to check this open the cover where the ink is. After the cartridges go to the change out spot on the left then carefully reach in with needle noise pliers and push in and lift up on the purge it should raise then when you ease it back it should lock into place and then there is a spring lever as your looking into the printer closest to you in front of the purge if you pull back gently and the purge does not move downwards then that is your problem its a pain in the @#$ to reset, the bottom of the lodges in front of the lower arm assembly of the catch, the top of the spring it goes forward towards the purge and is wedged underneath a small platform with a small notch about 1/16"x 1/32" but after i did this no more error 5100 now i just need new ink cartridges : D

Hi You can Try
Error Code 5100
Clean the timing strip.
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .
Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.
Dont Forget say thanks
