Question about Creative Labs Zen Digital Media Player

My creative zen screen was flickering white

I charged my Creative Zen for a couple of hours and I came back to see how much was charged. When I looked at the screen, I saw that the Zen was off but, the screen was flickering white.

I unplugged it and I tried using a paper clip to reset the Zen but, it's not doing anything. It still won't turn on. If I plug the Zen back onto the charger, the player won't turn on. There is no blue light coming from the power switch. All I see is a white flickering on the screen.

Oh please, don't tell me this thing is toast. Anyone have any help??
is it a battery problem?? or other problem..

I'm having a similar problem. My zen will turn on if it's plugged into a computer, or sometimes a charger. But if I unplug it it immediately turns off. I've hit the reset button but it doesn't change anything, it won't turn on undaided. It just flashes a white screen.

i dont think it was the virus. ive looked this up and iot seems it happens a lot when it was locked. this happened to me, like 2 hours ago. it was locked for 5 minutes. i tried to turn it off. it said shutting down on the screen. when i looked at it 5 min later, the screen was white and the power light was on. i dont want to reset it, beacuse i have some things on there that will be hard to get back. i did the lock thing, i held down play pause, and several other things. as far as i know, there are no solutions on this site, yet.

The update never worked for me. Also, I never had mine locked. The first time I noticed the problem was after I'd been playing music all night with my Zen plugged into the charger.

I've reset my Zen a million times and never lost anything on it. It 'rebuilds' the data.

The only thing I've ever done that works consistently is to freeze the thing. However, whether it boots up one time or half a dozen times after freezing it is anybody's guess. I've also tried rapping it sharply on the back (what've I got to lose?), which used to work, but not anymore.

Apparently there isn't a fix for this problem. I just wish Creative would make it right with all the people who have spent money on the piece of ****. I've only had mine for about a year. What makes me really sick is that my husband liked mine so much, he bought one, too.

SEEMINGLY RANDOM PROBLEM

I've seen a million reasons why people think their Creative Zens are going to the white screen of death. I've tried a million different things myself in trying to 'solve' the problem. The only quick-fix that has worked consistently was freezing the Zen (in a plastic bag, of course). After freezing it, it always boots fully the first time I turn it on, but your guess is as good as mine as to how many times it will work before having to freeze it again.

PUT THE SQUEEZE ON - CAREFULLY!
To me, the problem has always seemed like it had to do with a lack of connection or contact inside the thing. So, my next theory has proved - so far - to work even better than freezing. However, it's a bit of a risk to the LCD screen. I noticed the casing seemed a bit "loose", so I squeeze it (be careful not to break the LCD!!!!) as I turned it on. The first time I did this was last night. The Zen has properly booted every time I've turned it on since then. I've left it for hours and turned it on occasionally when I've thought of it...and presto!

I ASKED AN EXPERT!
My brother is an electronics expert. I described the problem to him and asked his opinion. Without going into detail (that I can't remember anyway), he concluded that there are contacts in the casing for the LCD that just aren't quite making the contact.

WHY?!
I fail to understand why Creative refuses to do anything about this problem when it seems that it would be a simple fix. I understand that they have more lucrative business to attend to, but selling a bum product and not even acknowledging the problem - much less fixing it - just isn't right.

My creative zen wont turn on just bl;ack screen

I've had this problem a few times when I haven't used my Zen for a couple of weeks. Even when the unit is powered off it still consumes battery (as the clock continues to work in the background) - so eventually the battery completely dies.

Hook it up to your PC with the USB cable and, if you can see the battery icon and it looks like it's charging, then just leave it for about 1-2 hours (it takes this long to come back to full life - enough to be recognized by your PC, anyway.

If possible, find another USB cable that will fit the connector, as the white USB that comes with the Zen is pretty rubbish and takes forever to charge - I use the mini USB cable that came with my Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 phone and it works a lot better.

Best of luck.

Really i don't know what the problem is. the creative doesn't charge and when it charges don't do anything

the player seems to need longer charging:
1. while player switched OFF: let it load on ac-adapter or USB-connection**** for about 1 hour, until the screen lights up.
2. still while player switched OFF: let it load another 2 to 3 hours
to get it fully charged.

**** notice: when using USB for charging:
1. Install the application software (from CD or Creative-download)
2. Preferred is a USB-connection at the backside of the computer
3. When more USB-connections are used, have the others disconnected: trying not to overload the USB-port power-consumption.

My Creative Zen won't turn on or so sizes of charging.

On the bottom is a very small hole. Put a pin in and push, it will start your creative up again.

Zen wont work on battery

The battery is bad or the charging circuit is flaking out. Try plugging it in and from the wall side of the charger, unplug and plug it in several times. Sometimes on the Zen players that will shock it back into charging. I have seen that same charging issue on several models of Creative players.

Cheers

CREATIVE ZEN GONE HAYWIRE

sounds like it might be either a bad firmware driver, which can be erased and reinstalled via the USB connection to your computer and a download from creative. Or the battery has gone bad, in which case you have to have it sent to creative for Repair.

Zen v plus problem

If you don't mind losing your music that you stored (not too sure if you do lose your music, but just in case),
find the reset hole on the side of the player, below the power/hold switch, push it with a paper clip or something of that size.

If that doesn't work, wait for the battery to die completely, then charge and turn it back on.
