Are you using it when it shuts down?
Is it going into hibernate mode or completely shutting down.

If it is in use when it shuts down, it may be overheating. Check to see if the air exhaust ports have a breeze and if it is hot. Can you hear the fan run?

Often, when the fan runs, it picks up dust which settles inside on the cpu's heatsink an prevents proper airflow and you may have to open it to clean it.

Asus u52 shut down unexpectedly

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

Laptop keeps shutting down after a couple of hours of using it, I have only had it a couple of months, but it does tend to get hot underneath, so someone suggested the fans need cleaning but as it's only 2...

I had the same problem (would power down after 10mins.) It definitely sounds like there is excessive dust build-up around your fan. I cleaned mine out and has been working perfectly ever since. Its worth a try to take a look. Good luck, Todd

Laptop turns off when charger is plugged in !!

Charger is bad and is not putting out the correct voltage which causes the computer to shut down. Battery probably isn't much good either if it only lasts for one hour. Get new batter and charger. Ebay'ers will help you find one cheap.

Power jack repaired now comp shuts down

the power jack plug is still loose. Tad risky opening up the shell like that, perhaps the problem was deeper than just the jack....I am curious if it can do a full battery charge if you left it recharge for a couple of hours.

Installed new larger hard drive now crashing after an hour use

When you say "shuts down" do you get a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) or does it just shut down without an error message? It definitely sounds like overheating. Try using a laptop cooler, something like this: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/antec_notebook_cooler.php (I'm not saying you should buy that model necessarily, there are many such coolers). They can make a huge difference.
