My first response is that you call a service technician. Diagnosing a problem with a TV now days isn't as easy as saying it's this or that. Sonys have several circuit boards inside them and narrowing it down requires a diagnostic procedure.

Today's TV's have a self protect system in them that if something isn't right, with just about anything in the set, it just shuts down to protect itself from further damage.

I just hope you have an extended warranty on the set or that it's still under manufacturer's warranty as repairs can become very expensive. If not, your best bet is to have an authorized servicer repair the set and not somebody from Joe's TV (unless he's factory authorized, of course), but you get my drift.

Sadly to say, there's more hacks out there than qualified repair technicians, so do your research before turning your set over. You'd be surprised at what I've seen in this industry, and it scares me.

1. Try this - hold the menu button down for 10 seconds. TV should power up; you will have to turn off front panel buttons on menu.

2. You can also try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..

if not please follow these:

Troubleshooting Tips:
1) Main cause of defective will be located on the KD-board
2) Confi rm KD-board is securely seated on the G2-board
3) Replace KD-board

Thats a fairly complex Chassis. Unless youre really good at dissassemble and reassembly of small components, I would suggest a Sony authorized reapir tech do the repair.

Certainly, I can help you. I would recommend going to the following link and getting the service manual so he can see first hand disassembly instructions and testing proceedures. Its only 10.99 and they email it to you shortly after purchase. The manual is a valuable resource as it will have part numbers in case you do need a new KD board. heres the link.

Try to power down the set(unplug from the wall socket) for 30 mins to do a hard reset. then fire it up again and see what happens. Let me know how you go.

If the hard reset does not sort out your problem, then you will need to get a repair guy to have a look at it for you. There are no user servieable parts inside you set. I should also warn you abot the 30,000 volt potentials present that can cause injury of death inside the set... only a qualified technician should look inside for you.

I am more than happy to answer
any other questions you may have about it, just give me a hoy :) If you

Well, if the problem is just the CRT, that wouldn't cause the TV to stop powering up. You would just have convergence / video issues, and not power up issues. I am not saying that the green CRT is good, it could still be defective and needs replacement.
The click sound is probably the power relay being energized. I think the issue is definitely to do with the power board / supply. Look for busted capacitor, etc. They should be easy enough to identify..they will have a swollen cap (top). Also check the relays, MOS, rectifier diode bridge, switching IC's, etc. It would probably be easier to simply replace the whole board.

I'd recommend THIS link for a service manual for your TV. They also have many spare replacement parts, and they can help you locate the necessary parts online if need be. Also, if you purchase the service manual from, they will provide free unlimited online assistance while you install the necessary components.

    If
still under warranty or if you have no electronic repair experience you
should take the set back to the shop or to a repair person. Some of the
solutions described below can be dangerous, TV's are very hazardous to
service. Even when plugged out, TV's can store very high voltages.

    The
five blinks(count them again just to be sure) is an error codes that
stands for the following: "FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the
timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the
self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video
out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check
Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking, try turning
    up screen slightly."

    So what is the AKB? It is Auto Kine Bias;
a circuit that holds the video OFF until the picture tube (kinescope)
is warm enough to run video. So, if there is trouble within the AKB it
may not be turning on the crt. Or, the crt could be cold, or there
could be power supply problems (which I favor because the audio is
gone, too, which means it is not a "video only" matter).

Therefore, I do not favor replacing the C board (or A board as
indicated in the url above). I favor finding out why the AKB circuit is
    not functioning.

It is necessary to get the set to come ON
long enough to make sure the crt is heating up. You may have to
manually defeat the protection circuit and force the set to come ON. If
you can find the ON relay you may be able to hold it ON manually - at
least long enough to find out more symptoms, but not too long or some
    further damage may occur.

Go to: http://www.schematicsforfree.com/archive... where you may find a schematic or service manual for this set - or one that is close/similar enough to be of great value.

Last comment: Some sets will, upon failure of the AKB function, after a
few seconds, go into diagnostics - which is similar to protection. So,
the audio may be working okey. Turn the set on with the volume up; if
you hear audio for the until the set cycles into the flashing light
routine it means the audio is really good. So, check that carefully.
You may have to do a hard reset to cause the AKB function to reset. So,
do this: Unplug the power cord for 4 hours or more. That will reset
    everything.

Hope this helped, or gave you a general idea, but please don't take a further step unless you know the safety issues involved.

    Good luck

Can u tell me the number of times the light flashes?

because sony TV problems can be found only with the help of the number of flashes the TV shows.

  • dewan nafees ahmed Jun 20, 2008

the green power light flashes continuously in a particular fashion.

if u can tell me the right way of the pattern i can tell you the exact problem of ur unit.

feel free for asking any doubts u have.

please don't repost ur question unless i don't respond to ur query.

    thank u for ur cooperation.

good luck for getting fixed soon.

  • dewan nafees ahmed Jun 20, 2008

Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit
goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a
short in the power supply of any of the circuits. Could be a break or
    bad solder connection anywhere

    Four blinks - No
vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line
then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505 This means there is
most likely a cracked printed circuit board or a bad connection in the
vertical drive circuit or maybe a bad connection or cracked printed
circuit board around the flyback transformer or sweep power supply. the boards are very brittle at this state and care needs to be taken at this point.

like this there is a particular decoding for a particular blink code.
and so we can help you better if u tell us the blink code correctly.

  • dewan nafees ahmed Jun 20, 2008

    A 5 blink
error is a lamp ballast error, Although some times on this model all
you need to do is to replace the bulb, but if that does not fix it, Sony recommends when replacing the ballast you also replace the bulb.

    source: techlore site.

  • dewan nafees ahmed Jun 20, 2008

if u say nothing about the blink codes then this could be lots of things in this set.
    The most common is the
vertical sweep circuit stopped working and when this happens the set
blanks the picture as to not damage the picture
    tube.
As to finding exactly wrong with the TV set, you would need to
look at the service manual and check the vertical then check the to see
    if you have High Voltage.
I cannot tell you how to do this without a model number and you need to know all about how the circuit works.
This is not a repair job I'm afraid for the novice. Play it safe and call in an experienced repair tech to diagnose and repair this TV set for you. Good Luck

My Grand Wega KF60WE610 has no picture and has a buzzing sound when turned on. If left on the green light blinks and the buzzing sound may or may not occur again. Can anyone diagnose this issue?

That buzzing sound is this kind of Tv LCD Projection, is most likely a issue with the ballast (only if sound cames near the lamp) you can check that just follow the cables that are connected to the lamp, take out the back cover of tv, and keep pushing the switch cover (if not tv will not turn ON). and check if that sound comes from the only board connected to lamp. if it does, you are going to need a ballast very soon.
