If you are handy with electronics stuff repair and can take apart camcorder then can replace toggle switch in Sony DCR-DVD103 camcorder, it is mounted on JS-031 board, its small circuit board that is easy to get replaced by taking off side cabinet. JS-031 board part number is as follows:
A1070102A ..... JS-031 BOARD, COMPLETE

Remove disc from camcorder and check toggle switch, is it working now?
Press menu and check toggle switch works?
If toggle switch still works in one direction but does not work in other directions then replace it as mentioned above.

So it's a small slender board? Will this give me back control of the format function? Can't get it out of formatting....
my sony dcr-dvd301 has a toggle switch that only works in one direction, by replacing this will I be able to get it out of the formatting mode or is there more to replace?
