Question about Acer PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have an Acer AL1916 monitor. I recently plugged an Optima 19" widescreen monitor in to my computer. I did not like using this as all the fonts were small and too hard for my aging eyes to see!! I have also been using a normal 4:3 monitor for years and did not like the widescreen. When I plugged my Acer AL1916 monitor back in to my computer, all the fonts, etc., have stayed small. I have tried adjusting the resolution in the display settings of the control panel but, whereas that does make the fonts and print larger, the quality is terrible and I cannot seem to fix it. How do I get my original settings back for my Acer AL1916. Thanks.

Acer x193 moniter shows no signal

Not to be too simplistic, but have you moved either the desktop computer or the monitor recently. Even if you haven't, check to make sure the video cable is plugged in completely on the back of the monitor and into the computer. It may look plugged in, but is not making a complete connection.

No Signal

Check your monitor. Mine did this and is an ACER. Make sure the cable in the back of the monitor didn't wiggle out. (Mine did.) Another thing to try is plug it in to SD if you're using HDMI. My HDMI port went out a while back so I had to use SD.

Moniter reads no signal but tower light is on

Have you changed your resolution recently? Have you installed any programs recently? Have you made any hardware changes lately? Make sure the monitor is firmly connected to the tower and to the back of the monitor. Is the monitor plugged into the wall outlet? If you have two video ports on the back of the tower make sure you are plugged into the correct one, you may also try switching to the other port. Try another monitor if you are able to or try the monitor on another tower to see if you can isolate the problem to the monitor. Do you get anything appearing on the monitor when you first start the computer up? Have you been using a video card or onboard graphics?

Monitor compatibility

It will be compatible with the system, just keep on thing in mind, whatever resolution you set your computer at you may have to keep the ratio aspect active so that way the screen looks properly displayed.

Screen says mode not supported h:53.4khz v;84.ghz

You should reboot your computer. Immediately after you see the BIOS splash screen (Dell, Acer, HP, etc...) start pressing the F8 key 2 times every second. If you're quick enough, you'll get the Windows boot menu. When you see the menu, select "VGA Mode". This will boot Windows with minimal video settings which are compatible with all modern monitors.

Once Windows loads, right click on the desktop, select Properties, go to the Settings tab, and begin sliding the resolution bar up from 800x600 and clicking Apply. After each change, it'll ask you if you want to keep the settings. If you can still see the screen, click Yes. If you get to a setting where your monitor goes black and says "mode not supported", then wait 15 seconds and it'll revert to the last mode that worked. Leave it there.

Here are some typical resolutions for monitors:

17" = 1280x1024
19" = 1280x1024
19" widescreen = 1440x900
21" = 1600x1200
24" = 1920x1200

Hope this helps!

I don't know where or how to hook up a web cam to this monitor.

That model of the dell monitor you have is very skinny, you need something that can sit on top comfortably.

I suggest the Logitech Communications Deluxe as shown here courtesy of Logitech:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/webcam_communications/webcams/devices/3057&cl=us,en

Its a webcam that has good quality video and one that I've used in the past. You'll notice the way its shaped that it will sit and conform to the natural shape of your monitor.

Input not supported

In display properties under advanced, lower your refresh rate to 60 hertz. Then go up until it no longer supports it then back off a notch.
