Question about Frigidaire Refrigerators

1 Answer

Attempted install of ice maker on fridgidaire model GLRT183TDW3. Picture of water valve doesn't look exactly like what I received with the kit. Cannot tell if I put the right tube in the right hole. The one for the plastic tube is threaded, but the copper tube (to water supply) slid into self locking hole. How much should I turn the spiket on for the water. First got too much water in freezer, now none. What am I doing wrong?

The instructions were pretty generic and the manual that came with the refrigerator has instructions for installing an icemaker but they look pretty much the same. I bought the icemaker online at abt.com but the part number is the one that is listed on the inside of the refrigerator cabinet. I purchased the copper tubing at home depot because the manual suggested using it as opposed to plastic. It came with a self piercing shut off valve but the instructions say do not use that type. I can't really see where it is supposed to connect anyway so I didn't. Could this be the problem?

Sound like you may be backwards. usually the copper supply line is threaded, it is the one attched to the rear of valve and shows outside the rear cover when all is closed up. some directions are generic for all refrigerators, did you get the icemaker from frigidaire with their specific instructions?

The self tap valve is o.k. to use. if you have low water pressure it may cause the cubes to be smaller. A drilled valve will give you better pressure but is difficult to install. as said before though, The supply from house will hook to valve OUTSIDE OF REFRIGERATOR. there will be a connection that shows outside the frame of refrig. this is used to attach to house.

Hello I have a whirlpool side by side model # ed5jhaxml00. The ice maker stopped working, I still have water in the door. I replaced filter and is still not working. Any Ideas?

Hard to know exactly without being there on the spot but the link will provide good information on how they work. Your fridge also has a dual water inlet valve. The door can provide you water while the ice maker can not receive water because of the second inlet valve.

Sounds like you have a problem with water valve/triple solenoid assembly. It controls the flow of water to the door and ice maker. I believe it comes as a complete unit.

Does not make ice

Either the ice maker is not calling for water or the ice maker water valve is not working, there are many different types of water valves so its very dificult to tell you what to do without a model number or picture of the valve, but generaly speaking if you VERY CAREFULLY put 120V to a water valve it should open and alow water to flow, you can try this for the valve that has a water line going to the ice maker and see if it lets water go to the ice maker, sometimes there are two valves that must open, one main valve and then another for either the water dispensor or the ice maker. a better first test might be to test the water valve for resistance across the coil and compair it to another coil and see if its close-ish. also you can test some ice makers and see if they are putting 120V to the water valve by bypassing the bimetal and causing the ice maker to go into a cycle, but again a model number is required to know what kind of ice maker you have., even a picture would help

Ice maker is splashing water all over back of freezer and it builds up til the fan starts to make noise if I turn it off and defrost the ice it will start up noise free til the ice builds again.

What is the model number of your unit? When the ice builds up, does the ice just build up where it is splashing or is the ice also building up behind the back wall of the freezer?

Thank you! Richard

Maytag model MZD2766GEW. The water tube supplying

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Our automatic ice maker will not quit dripping in the freezer. It keeps clogging the ice maker with icicles and large blocks of ice. Essentially, it keeps "freezing over." We have defrosted it...

if it keeps filling and overflowing you have a bad water valve on the back of the fridge.the part number is WR57X10027 and the valve is around 75 dollars.first thing lift the arm or shut off the ice maker so it won't leak anymore, you're missing a few letters off of the model number so when you call your parts store give them the full model number, open the fridge door, look up on the right hand side wall up near the ceiling and give them the model number to make sure you get the correct valve, shut off the water supply to the fridge, then have the new valve next to the old valve when you remove a water line from the old valve just connect it to the new valve,do this until everything is changed out and the new valve is in place, turn on the water supply and you can check the ice maker to make sure it doesn't overflow.you can manually start the ice maker by grabbing the plastic arms of the ice maker and pull them forwards slowly until the arms start to advance on their own, you'll hear the water valve fill the ice maker and then you can watch it fill to see if the water is filling it correctly and i'm sure you'll be fine with the new water valve installed

My model is 596-50699001 and the problem is does't do ice, and change a filter what can I do to fix it ? Thankyou for helpingg me

There three problem that will not make your ice maker to make ice.

If the water’s route is blocked or the solenoid doesn’t work

If the bail wire is lifted—the ice maker won’t make ice.

Your home’s water pressure must be strong enough to serve an ice maker.

For your ice maker to maker ice,
be sure the bail wire above the ice tray is in the down position.

If the ice maker doesn’t make ice but you can see the arm swing into motion and you hear a buzz for about 10 seconds after it is finished, the water valve is asking for water that isn’t arriving. This means the valve and the solenoid are probably okay, but the water supply is not. Be sure the water supply line isn’t kinked behind or beneath the refrigerator (1/4-inch copper tubing is much better than plastic fill line).

Also, check to see if something has caused ice to back up around the mechanism—this can cause the fill tube to freeze, blocking the mechanism. When ice cubes are small and seem to be getting smaller, it generally indicates a frozen fill tube.

Check the water line that enters the back of the freezer for a blockage. Find the water shut-off valve behind the refrigerator or under the sink, turn it off, unscrew the copper line from the back of the refrigerator, put the copper line in a bucket, turn on the valve, and see if pressurized water pours out.

The water line attaches to a solenoid at the back of the refrigerator and then travels to the ice maker. The solenoid may be defective or may not be receiving power. You can try removing the sediment screen inside the solenoid and flushing it with water to clean it, and at the same time you can inspect any seals or diaphragms to ensure that they are sound. Unplug the refrigerator first.

Check the tap valve; a bad tap valve may cause the problem where the ice maker supply tube connects to the water pipe. If necessary, replace the inlet valve and the tap valve. For the tap valve, use the type that requires you to drill a 1/4-inch hole (as opposed to the “self-piercing” type). You can do this yourself, or call a repair person or plumber to install an inline water filter when replacing the valve.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

GE side by side; model # TFX25JRYD Serial #

So the dispenser is getting water. Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

If the valves clicks but water doesn't get to ice maker the fill tube can be stopped up with ice.The water inlet valve on the back of the unit where the water supply comes in can have a slow leak and will cause ice to buildup and block the fill tube. Disconnect the ice maker line from the valve and watch to see if it has a slow drip. It doesn’t take much to eventually block the fill tube.

Ice maker is not getting water to make ice

The most likely cause is the green water solenoid behind the fridge. Take an ohm meter and test across the two terminals and it should NOT ohm out(beep). If it does not ohm out I would replace the P.C. Board kit, emitter & receiver icemaker control. You can buy the P. C. boards and a new water inlet valve kit with new quick connections at www.repairclinic.com or www.appliancepartspros.com Both sites are very helpful and most likely have these parts in stock.
