No valve should be a part of this machine, other than a back-flow that works automatically when you insert the water reservoir.
The pump may have failed or you may have a kink in the line.
This model is not intended to be serviced, it is more of a disposable unit. You can however pry the top off of the unit to check the lines for kinks.

I do not find it humorous that ads for bogus money making schemes should be suggested as a solution to this problem!
I think I have the same problem. I hadn't used my Hamilton Beach Espresso machine for a while, and tried to use it the other day but the water will not go through the Brew Head to make the espresso. The Frothing Nozzle is fine and still works well. I'm not sure what it is --I was wondering if calcified water has blocked it. Any ideas would be great!
Same problem, I use mine 3-4 times a week, and one day it just stopped dripping. I cleaned out the filter and wiped down the brew head to clean off any excess grounds. I worked for a couple of brews after that and then stopped again. Is there a cleaning solution that can be ran through the water canister that won't damage the unit or poison me when I want to make another cup of espresso? Any help would be appreciated!!!
Ditto to your folks. I have the same problem, no water through the brew head - the steam nozzle works fine. Any help would be appreciated. I tend to rush in where angel fear to tread. If I could even get a service diagram or something, I would tear into my unit and see if I could locate the problem.
I have tried to get help from HB, but they do not respond.
Any help would be super!
If anyonw has since found a solution, I'd like to know cause U have the same problem. Someone gave me this machine whcih he hasn't used for months, so like in the other post, maybe length of time not in use is a factor in this problem.
