Hello Brian,

Sorry it took a couple days to get to the point of solving your problem with your Garmin. I wanted to do the best I can to help you. So i spent some time and I personally called via my resources A friend of mine the deals with Garmin direct. With our research and phone tag with Garmin, the results are in. It appears the problem is in a chip inside called the logic board, is or has become faulty. That is the reason it will not be recognized on the computer as well as the manual boot override will not solve this problem. They told me this I quote: They state it is a defective/substandard part being used in the unit that is not the customers fault however they said that the unit is automatically covered through manufacture warranty.

Bottom line is this, the unit has to be sent in for repair, but if its not under warranty, then the cost for repair, compared to buying a new refurbished one, would not be practical. Here is what I have done in the past with great success. With many gps, when there not working correctly and there out of warranty, I write them a letter direct, and brag how much i love the unit and so forth. You know really build up up (ego boost) then state that you are wanting to keep bragging to your friends about how great the unit is, but your little embarrassed now, as unit is not working correctly and if there is anyway they can solve this problem.

I have had about a 90% positive result with a letter like that, even to the point of them sending out a new unit even when warranty was expired.

So, I am sorry, there is no buttons to push, or boots up to fix it, this is a problem internal with the logic board. I hope this helps, that was with tons of phone calls and me digging into problem fully. Thanks Mike

Try recalibrating your touch screen. if that does not work make sure and rule out pressure damage to specific section of screen. if it turns out to be physical damage to screen or device that recognizes touch. call Garmin for further solutions.

You may have to calibrate your touch screen. This is typically in the utility or setup menu. You also may need to do a hard reset. There should be a recessed button that will reset and reload the software.

My touch screen keeps messing up, certain letters dont work.

I recommend you backup your favorites.

Then attempt a hard reset.

Finally, replace the firmware and system software using webupdate.
Replacing the system software will most likely correct the malfunctioning keying of letters.

I hope that helps.

I'm getting inaccurate letter entry on the letters I type. For example, when I type a B an M appears - I'm noticing it on the bottom row of letters at this time. Solution?

Are you sure you pressed the correct location on your screen???
If so, you may need to calibrate the screen.
Do this:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} To recalibrate the touchscreen on your nuvi 200 series follow the steps below:

  6. Keep pressing in the center of the Dot as it moves around the screen.
  7. Once this is complete, there will be a message: Calibration Complete.
