These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3
Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa
players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do
not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues -
they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes,
flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.
Reset the Sansa Player first.On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer.Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced. Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website. Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the
computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull
down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor
over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow
underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary
slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything. Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware
upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in
the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have
the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to
find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp If these fail, then: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off,
hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer
while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button
for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into
recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says
Found New Hardware Wizard. If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version). You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods
to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE

Try these solutions to fix image database file not ready:
1. Format the card within the camera itself. 2. Erase everything from card and then re-insert it in the camera. 3. Replace the card with new one 4. Check whether card is locked or not. If it is locked then unlock it. 5. Switch off the camera and then Turn it ON back again.

If you try to load too many songs onto the player initially, it may take up to an hour to get past Refresh database. Unfortunately, if you shut the player off while it is refreshing, it will more than likely ruin your player. Run the Sansa Recovery Tool or Update the Firmware on your Player as a workaround. Make sure the hold/lock switch isn't activated, just as a safeguard.
Dude, c'mon - you have a Linux based system - did you really think it was going to work? Just playing with you. I would check the Linux forums on this one - if you're smart enough to use Linux, then you're smart enough to grab software info from Sandisk's website/cust svc line and pass it to your Linux buddies to hack.
The Same thing happened to Me once. All you have to do is reformat it. You can do this by first putting the player in recovery mode. You can do this by putting the hold button on the side where you can see the orange and then plug the device into the computer while holding the power/Menu button. Then go to my computer to Verify that it came up as 16MB-Format. Then you can type into the address bar and type in http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmware/rhapsody-188.8.131.52.zip. then once you do that right click on the file you downloaded and select open with compressed folder and drop and drag to the 16MB-Format drive. In the 16MB-Format drive folder select file menu and select New - Folder and rename it sansa.fmt then press enter to save. Finally move the hold switch back and disconnect the device and look at the screen and verify it is formatting and resetting once it's done and finishes the updates restart and if needed pick your language. check and see if you can use your player.
