Question about Linksys WRT54GX2 Wireless-G Broadband Router with SRX200 (LS-WRT54G2)

No wireless light

I have a Linksys WRT54GX2 router connected to a Motorola SB5101 cable modem. On the display only the power, internet, and [connected] ethernet ports are lit up. The wireless light will not come on. I've tried adjusting settings by accessing the routers ip address (192.168.1.1) but nothing seems to work.

One thing occurred to me. Could the modem be doing all the "thinking" for the router? I had a similar problem with a DSL modem once. I connected directly to the modem (192.168.100.1) but could not change the settings (and also I don't know what to change anyway).

Any ideas? Any help appreciated.

  • Are you sure you are plugging in the LAN cable coming from the modem into the WAN Port (Labelled "Internet") on the router or is it getting connected to an Ethernet port (Marked from 1 to 4)??

If the wireless light is of on the router it only means that it has a problem, Try to turn off teh router to 10 seconds and check if still no wireless light , if still no wireless light you may need to press and hold the reset button of the router for 15 seconds and that should fix the problem on it.
hope that helps........

Have you tried to check the IP address that you are getting from the router on your wired computers? If they are getting an IP address of 192.168.1.10x and the DG: 192.168.1.1 then that is the right address to get in to the router. Did you try to ping the address? did get replies? try to also disable the firewalls on your pc.

With that particular model you wont be able to use it as a wireless bridge. You can however run an ethernet cable from the modem to any point in your house. the SBG900 i believe has wireless built into it, so you may need up with 2 wireless networks.

Hope that helps.

Hello
Try this

1 disconnect all wires, including power from the modem and router.
2 Find reset button on router usually in the back, need a pen tip or paper clip to hold it in.
3 Hold in reset for 1 min.
4 Reconnect modem first,power up.
5 Reconnect router second, power up.

Try changing the ethernet wire from the modem to the router.

So your going to have your cable coax wire to the modem. Then a ethernet wire from the modem to the router, then a ethernet wire from the router to the computer.

Sounds like you may have one wire in the wrong place.

I cant get my motorola sb5101 surf board cable modem to connect to a belkin g wireless router. the light on the belkin flashes orange when i try to connect it to the modem but no internet connection

I have a similar problem. The common denominator seems to be the SB5101. I have a brand new Belkin Surf 300N, same issue. The modem will not give DHCP to the router. I can connect fine via ethernet to the modem directly.
This modem seems to be a dinosaur.

I have a Motorola SURFboard SB5101 Cable Modem a Netgear mr814v2 wireless router, I obtain the ip address on router status but for some reason my internet communication losed. I verified the configuration...

Hi, follow the steps below to configure MR814 with your motorola surfboard:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
RECONFIGURE:
1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.0.1
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

MY LINKSYS WRT54G WONT READ MY COMPUTERS INTERNET CONNECTION

Ok to start the yellow ethernet port should be connected straight to the Linksys router in the ethernet in port. Then you connect the cmputer to one of the other the 4 ports on the back of the wireless router. wala you shouldn't have any more trouble after that.

Need tech advice

No and why doesn't your internet provider... provide a cable modem?? Did you just ask them to enable broadband internet service? So now you'll have to provide your own cable modem.

If what you say is correct you need a cable modem like a motorola surfboard from BestBuy.... then the cable modem plugs into your Linksys router and your PC's plug into the linksys router also.

I have a cable modem, Motorola SB5101, Nd need to connect my linksys wireless router.

If this is a first install of a brand new Linksys router:
Just plug your cable modem to the back of your linksys router's internet port, then plug a computer to Port 1 on your router, type http://192.168.1.1 in your internet browser on the computer connected to Port 1, you will access the setup page of your linksys router (leave the user name field blank and type admin as password)
Now you can go to http://www.cas411.com/ShowArticle.aspx?ID=68 to setup your wireless securely, you do not want to just leave it at its default settings, as anybody could then use your internet access or worst, check what you are doing on your computer.
Let me know if you need more help!
