Question about Frigidaire Air Conditioners
Hi, It opens a flap that allows fresh outside air to come in. The opening it screen covered on most units so no insects get in. To get the most cooling it is best to leave it closed. If you want fresher air, open it. Please rate my suggestion if it has helped. Thank you and, Have a good day. kstfas

The air exchanger is there to give you the option of adding fresh outdoor air [open] or recirculate the air in the room [closed].

SOURCE: window air condition (LG)
I have been looking through others with similar symptoms - I have found at least 4 so far and I have the same problem. The common ingredient is that the compressor runs for exactly one minute and then kicks off for several minutes. Some LG units (mine is a 8008R) have a Dry Mode that does exactly this by design. It seems that mine sometimes does this in Cool Mode. Once it is powered on, it either works correctly, or does this one minute on, several minutes off routine. It seems to randomly choose one of the two modes on power-on and does not change.

Here's a link to the manual.
Hope this helps.

Hello,Lilo The styrofoam pack MUST stay in place. When in operation the air tempature is so cold the unit will condensate(create water)if not insluated.Your unit would LEAK all over the place. The blower fan is a PLASTIC composit and should not rust.
