You keep mentioning ( come out of standby ), You do know don't you that some systems are having problems with coming out of standby. A bios ( firmware ) update to the motherboard may fix this, but again it may not. If HP is saying that the system is working ' correctly ', then it probably is for the bios that is available for the system at this time. I would suggest not using the STANDBY mode but instead when you get done with the computer, shut it down, and restart it when you are ready to use it. I would like for you to try that possibly several times before deciding that it doesn't work for you. If you find that a complete restart of the computer doesn't alliviate your problem, please come back and let us know. I am assuming that you are in an area that has good wireless reception of course. Assumptions can be bad for a tech's health if you know what I mean.

the website below indicates that there is numerous models of the DV 6000 laptop. A person should verify exactly which model he has, then access the page of that model and download the necessary drivers or bios updates that may help him/her fix their issue. You may indeed be using a Broadcom wireless system, normally those are quite good, but still a firmware ( bios ) update may be needed. If this helps, please let us know. http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_...

I cannot connect to the internet and my switch light is amber not blue

Hi, if you have moved the switch to the right so as to turn the wifi into the ON position, and it is still amber, there is a 99% chance that it is suffering from the common issue of an overheating graphics chip which causes this problem. If it is less than 2 years old, HP have extended their warranty and you can get a free repair. Otherwise, you can take it to any reputable laptop repair centre who will be well aware of this problem and quote you a price of repair. Best of luck

HP Pavilion PC wireless light stays amber regardless of where I set the switch. Does not recognize my wireless network.

Switch on those generally is on when it is shifted to the right. Light will stay amber as long as the device is not active. If the switch is to the right, I would suggest trying this fix to see if you can get it to work.

Windows WiFi Fix,
Windows Zero Wireless Configuration is one of the best programs to run a WiFi in Windows XP or Vista. Most of the other software packages that come with the different adapters have been poor at best in keeping a connection through Windows. Here is the best guide to get you back up and connected.
Windows XP:
Click Start
Right click on My Computer
When a window pops up click on properties
Click on the Hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.

Windows Vista:

Click Start Logo
Right Click Computer
Click Device Manager
Windows will ask you about opening Device Manager Click Continue
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.

Wireless network card

Hi there.
The wireless switch on the front bottom of the laptop, it's suppose to be blue when the button is on the right.
Right click on computer and select manage, go to device manager, and go to Network Adapters, try to see a network adapter called Broadcom, if it doesn't appear, it means that your computer doesn't recognize the wireless card and you may have to reinstall the drivers.
Please let me know how you get on.

Good luck

Wireless switch is amber

Your computer is not detecting the wireless network, that's all. Leave it in an enabled state (even thought it's amber), and try a shutdown and restart.
If not, force it to search for wireless networks. It should detect.
By logging off the internet, what do you mean? Shutting your browser, disabling the wireless device under network connections, switching off the radio on the switch on your computer, or something else?

HP DV6000 no wireless internet

Hard to say when I dont know the exact model.

If it is an Atlantis(DV6000-6499) it is most likely the mainboard, and it might be coverd by an extended warranty.

If it is an Ares(DV6500-6999) you should try updatigng th BIOS first. If that doesnt help i would go for another WLAN card. It might also be a defective mainboard, but that doesnt happen as often on Ares models as Atlantis.

I have an HP Pavillion dv9000, but they are similar.

Now if you are moving the Wireless switch on and off and the light stays red on both sides you probably have a dud of a wireless card. I had the same issue with mine at one point, what I did was get a hold of tech support, they mailed me a box with a prepaid shipping label to send them my laptop. They put in a new wireless card and shipped it back for free(of course it was still under warranty).

If you recently purchased this laptop you can usually log onto www.HP.com, go to the support section and do the chat with an HP tech or call 800-HP invent or 800-474-6836 24/7 and they will walk you thru the whole process.

But again just from your description, you have a dead air card. Call or online hp and have them fix it for you, especially if its still under warranty. If its not under warranty, then hit me back and i can give you a step by step on how to open up the laptop yourself and replace the card

My HP Pavilion dv6000 the wireless connection stopped working and the light does not go blue to connect to internet. This happened 2 days ago. I can connect using a cable.

Check if it is only a software problem. Usually the blue light indicator functions with the physical slider switch. So even it is disabled in the network properties the indicator still lights when the physical switch is at "on" position.
