Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N1 Digital Camera

Sony Cyber-Shot Lens!

I went to the beach last weekend with my friend and her dad. I asked my friend's dad to take a few pictures of us and when he finished taking them he put my camera back in my beach bag. Little did i know, there was a small amount of sand collecting in the bottom. Well i turned the camera on and the lens acted funny. It came out then went back in. I turned it off and on repeatedly and now it works fine. The only problem is that when i zoom in and out, it takes longer than normal and it makes a weird sound. If you could help me fix this, i would greatly appreciate it.
Sincerely, Chelsea

I really don't know a lot about this stuff..but if I were you I'd go and have it professionally cleaned right away. You don't want sand in their messing up the camera.

How long since this happened? Has the camera had time to fully dry out?
Open all orifices, and let it sit on a dry paper towel, or cotton towel somewhere safe until it is fully dried out. Remove the batteries from all locations before you let it sit like that.
Then when you are certain it is completely dry, try it.

Lens Stuck open and wont turn on

My daughters Sony Cyber-Shot had the same trouble and I read that many times it is caused by foreign matter getting in the lens gearing. 1st suggestion was to hold the camera firmly in one hand and hit one side into the palm of your other hand. Do the same with the bottom, other side and top. Also spray a jet of air into where the concentric lens parts rotate when it opens. Use some judgment, do not hit on a hard surface or spray directly into the glass lens itself, or try to force any movement.

By combining these actions repeatedly I was able to get the camera to first open up and then zoom properly, just as other Sony customers had, Yea ! I then remembered that she was at the beach the day before so when I gave it back to her I guessed that she dropped it in the sand. She had of course.

Good luck, it worked for me

You should find warranty papers and claim it to Sony. If you open camera by yourself, warranty will be void.

Lens stuck

Knocking the camera sounds like it works but may create another problem. I have had this problem with p-100 , p-200 and now the w50, I have found a small drop, of wd40 placed on both sides ,two opposing sides,of the lens ring where it extends from the body will work also. Don't spray, its a bit too hard to control amount deposited. Use a toothpick or a stick to dip and then drop the oil.
