I'm trying to use my CAC reader SCR3310 on my Acer netbook. I received the programs from my Air force squadron and uploaded them onto my c drive. When I try to get onto the Air force portal I click on the log on icon and I get the message : "CAC Error. There was a problem with this browser accessing your CAC for authentication." It is happening on my home computer also. I never had a problem before. I received a new CAC card in August or September and didn't have a problem with it until 01 November. My CAC card works fine on the military computer. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks. Geno Carachilo

When a vital file becomes corrupted, it might be necessary to restore a computer to its original factory settings.
This process also cleans up the hard drive and removes old programs that can make a computer slow and unresponsive.
But, because restoration wipes away all files you have installed or created, it should be a last-ditch effort in trying to repair a computer.
If you have reached this point with your Acer laptop or desktop, the manufacturer provides a utility to restore the factory settings.

Open the Windows Start menu by clicking on the icon in the lower left corner of your desktop.
Click All Programs, then the Acer folder.

Select Acer eRecovery Management to open the utility.
If a Windows prompt asks for permission to run the program, click Yes.

Click the Restore button in the pane on the left side of the program window.
Click Completely Restore System to Factory Defaults.
Select the Yes option in the dialog box that asks you to confirm the action, and click Start.
Click OK in the second confirmation dialog box to restart the computer.
Click Next in the warning window that appears after the computer reboots.
This confirms that you realize restoring the computer deletes any data stored on your hard drive.

Click Next again in the Restore Destination window, and click OK in the popup that gives you one last warning about deleting your data.
The restoration process will begin.

Click OK when the utility lets you know that the restoration is complete.
The computer will restart, and Windows will finish the recovery process.

My daughter has a acer aspire one d255e and she is receiving an error message on boot that says no bootable device -- please restart system. restarting only brings us back to this screen. I have tried...

It sure sounds like a problem with the hard drive. Acers usually don't include diagnostic tools to check it out, but that is what I would do next. If you don't know how to proceed, use a hard drive diagnostic like DFT to diagnose the hard drive.
visit http://www.hitachigst.com/support/downloads/
to get the info and download the DFT program. This will work on non-Hitachi drives as well, so don't worry about what type of drive is in your Acer.
If the drive is bad, it is a fairly simple matter of installing a new hard drive and reinstalling windows onto it. It's hard to say if the data on that drive is recoverable or not.

I have downloaded skype successfully onto my acer aspire netbook. where will I find it on the netbook?

Hi,

You can try to search it on your computer if you're using Windows XP. Open my computer than Press Control + F type the name of the program then select the your hard drive the click on Search.

Windows Vista and Seven: Click on Start then on the lower left under All Programs or Programs just type Skype. and you'll see the installer. The next time you download a file make sure you verify the specific location where you save it.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Cac is readable by reader but is not permitting its use

ActiveCard Gold had known problems that were never fixed. Upgrade to the newer Active client 6.2 very reliable and stable CAC program. Also has several very useful tools in it as well. DoD switched to this a few years ago and has worked very well.

My Nieghbor loaded at least 3 rogue anti-virus programs onto her Acer. The netbook has 2 legitimate users. Most control panel, security center and other critical applications have been blocked from use...

sounds like spyware still got thru even with all the anti-virus programs running. Best thing to do is to save all the important data onto an external drive or flash drive and then reformat the drive and reinstall the drivers for the hardware and put the applications that you want back onto the computer. This time only install one anti-virus program onto the computer.

How to load programs onto netbook

If you can't get an external drive, then download a (free) program such as Daemon Tools to your desktop machine and make an "image" file of your Office CD on your desktop, then copy the image file (typically in .iso file format) to a USB drive, then download Daemon Tools to your netbook, plug in the USB drive with the .iso image file on it to your netbook, then use Daemon Tools to "mount" the iso image as a "virtual CD" drive and install Office that way. Sounds complicated but it's really not -- Google "Daemon Tools" to check out that program --

I dont understand how to download programs onto my acer aspire netbook

Programs can be installed from cd's or downloaded from the internet. You may first want to know what kind of program you need. It may already be installed in your computer.
